Could be the starter solenoid. The one click is the starter relay closing. If the solenoid doesn't make contact the starter will not run.

Listen carefully when you turn the key and nothing happens. If you hear a very small click then nothing I would almost bet money that the starter solenoid is in need of a repair kit. Cheap fix.

You can buy the contacts and plunger new from Nations Starter and Alternator for about 30 - 35 bucks. Much cheaper than hundreds for a rebuilt POS from Autozone etc.

Check this video for rebuilding the solenoid on the starter.

I tried ordering these parts but they said it wouldn't fit my 2013 4.0 V6. I'm not trying to spend $150 when i can rebuild if it is the solenoid contacts. Im confused because I've been told to get this kit by multiple people. Maybe they made a mistake when seeing if my parts would fit?

EDIT: I also hear you're the guy with answers. To be more specific, I turn the key, small click, then nothing. I am almost certain it's burned contacts. If you have a part recommendation I'd absolutely love the advice.

Yes that is the classic symptoms of burned starter contacts. Usually after a few tries they do close and the truck starts...

If you can get a Picture of your starter solenoid and post it here. I didn't think they changed it in 2013.

I'll see what I can find.

Looked at many sources and if your starter looks like this one below the contacts should fit with no issues.

Yup! Starter looks exactly like that. Gonna pull the trigger on the solenoid repair kit and test my luck. I'll keep you updated, I really appreciate the help!

    Please do keep me updated.

I used this same kit from Nations Starter for my 2012 when it went about a year ago. Took about and hour with a beer break... Of course if you have a 4X4 it is a bit harder to get the starter out as I understand it it has to come out through the wheel well.

    Good luck!

So I placed another order with those guys and they cancelled my order again. They're saying that they're unsure of what parts to send as there is a gear difference with the 2nd gen tacomas. I told him I just needed the plunger and contacts and he still insisted they don't know what parts to send. He was nice about it and I'm sure he knows something that I don't. Ended up just getting another Denso from toyota and I'll try to repair the old one at a later time. I'll update again once she's back up and running.

Do me a favor. Take a picture of the inside of the solenoid when you open it up. I would be willing to bet it is exactly like the 2012. Could you also post the part number of the starter Toyota Sold you?

It is crazy that they refuse to sell you the parts. If they don't know then they should find out. It can't be that hard.

It absolutely is the same starter. I'll post a pic of the inside of my old solenoid whenever I get the new one.
