Ok guys, need some advice! I got my hardware, took off my plastic bed rail and tried to install first mount and the first Torx bolt went in way too hard. I tried the next bolt and it almost felt like the bolt wasn't matching the threads as I could only get it to go part way in. Can't figure it out and dont want to mess up my mounting holes in truck. Is it supposed to be this hard to screw in bolt when attaching mounts for tonneau cover?

Could it be because I have the base model SR? The bed rails came off easy and all the holes are there for the 6 mounts but Ive tried a few different mounting areas and several of the screws but they wont go into the side mounting holes without a lot of force. I even tried the bolts in the header bar at top of bed where plastic support mount goes and bolts went in easily! So it can't be the bolts, what could it be?

Could be paint or some other coating in the threads. If you have a Harbor freight or other cheap tool store you could pick up a tap and die set and clean up the threads. Just a thought.

I remember some of mine were pretty hard to screw in on the bakflip.

Mine were tough too. Just paint in the threads. Run a tap through it and you'll be good.

Mine had dirt (and some rust) on the threads, and I needed to run a tap through them first. Since they obviously get dirt kicked up at that area, I used a little anti-seize when putting the bolts in to stop rust and them seizing in the future if I need to remove it.

What size of a tap tool do you need?
