I bought my truck used from a BMW dealership in late September. The previous owner who traded it in did not have the second fob or tailgate key (its a 2016 with keyless entry) with him when he traded it in. He originally told the dealership he would drop them off later and never did. I have called the dealership a couple times, but they're not motivated to get in contact with him and won't give me his contact info. Is there some way I can figure out who he is through the title or VIN? I want those keys since replacing the keyless fob is super expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You're not standing in the dealership lobby yelling loud enough.

also, tell them you are going to be reflecting this in your review of them online and the survey to follow the purchase.

if you signed something that said the dealer would provide those keys, then i'd just have the dealer pay to have them replaced. if you didn't sign something that said the dealer owed you the keys, you are SOL.

Dealers are brutal. They will tell you what ever they have to to make the sale. There might not even be a second fob

Dude is just trying to save some money and as usual the dealer is not of any help. Take it easy on OP.
Now for OP, keep calling your salesman every hour until he either gets off his ass and helps or ends up in the corner crying cause he cant handle it.

Simple solution, if they told you they'd get a second fob for you, they owe you one regardless if they get that original or a new one.

They didn't promise me anything. The previous owner told the dealership he would drop of the keys at a later date and never did. I bought the truck only a day or two after he traded it in.

I'd be worried to that the former owner is driving around trying the extra fob on all the white third gens out there.

Looking to get his truck back...

    Only kidding.

Replacing a FOB is no joke. Good luck OP

Haha. The former owner is a doctor who traded his 1 year old Tacoma in for a Beamer. I think I am safe.

Ah that sucks. Still a little misleading to even mention that to you as a buyer and put a little hope in you that you might get it...One thing I can say is *if* you consider maybe replacing it to have a spare, get the Lexus card key fob. Pretty slick deal.

Yea I've looked at that thread. Pretty cost effective option, and super cool. If I do it that'll likely be that route I take.

He probably lost the the fob and told the dealer a dirty face lie that he would drop them off later as to not hurt his trade in value. Sounds to me like you are sh!t out of luck.

Definitely possible. The main fob sucks because they're so expensive to replace, and the tailgate key is just plain annoying because I can't lock my tailgate at all without it.

2016 it was a separate key for the tailgate. In 2017 someone realized they screwed up and got it corrected to where that little key works.

Only think that is going to even remotely guarantee you might end up with that second fob is to go to the dealer and have them call up the guy while you are there.

And getting them to do that is going to be a nightmare. They've put any effort in your situation on the backburner until you give up.
