Wife's 01 4 runner's automatic transmission/torque converter just took a crap on me. Engine dies as soon as it's put in any gear. I'm guessing torque converter locked up? Anyway where can I take this on the NW side to get it fixed. Closer to 1960/290 the better. I know there is a joe myers stealership here but maybe there is a good local place. Car is 4wd, has 199,xxx miles. I know it's not a strawberry milkshake because I put an external transmission cooler on it the first week we owned it and just checked the fluid.

    Could it be anything else?

Lyndal, if I don't get a pm to you soon and you see this can we put the tires on hold for a little bit?

They look good. I'll give them a call in the morning. Thanks.

haha, I don't want to do that. Other than this it has been a great vehicle. Doesn't burn a drop of oil.

Starting to look into the possibility of a TC solenoid problem. Maybe this won't be as bad as it originally looked. :fingerscrossed:

Try undoing the battery, reset everything and see if the code goes away. Sounds more like a sensor

Yea, I'm leaning towards a TC solenoid. I think I can unplug it on the outside of the transmission and drive it there but I can't a)figure out what connection it is via my google fu and b) it's not throwing a CEL currently and it probably will when I do that. I hate taking stuff to shops but I think I'm just going to bite the bullet on this one instead of tinkering with it myself. I have a work order set up at HATS and will get it towed there this afternoon.

Hopefully its a quick and easy fix. I remember the first vehicle I had was a 1984 Ford Bronco II and it has trans problems. Wouldn't go in reverse. Had it in the shop multiple times and they could never fix it.

Well as if I didn't have enough going on with the 4 runner the fuel line on the mustang decided to give up as I left work today. Props to gus's auto repair on rankin circle for giving me about a foot of 3/8 fuel line to repair it on the street in front of their shop.

Looks like im in store for a run of bad luck. :(

can y'all quit quoting that already? Almost makes me want to :puke:

When HATS calls me tomorrow and tells me the bad news I'll tell them if there is any carnage inside I want to see it so we can see how right Chris is.

I've got a TCI in my C4 in the Mustang. I like them but my wife would kill me if I put one in her car that shifted that harsh. The A340 really is the definition of slush box to me with the way it shifts. If the transgo just firms it up a bit I'd probably be more than happy.
