I checked the 15a fuse under the hood and its good and I have 12v power to the fuse socket.

trouble is I don't have 12v power to the plugs behind the lower dash cover.

anybody run into this and have an idea what if anything is between the fuse and the plugs that could cause this?

yes I checked that and its good too

ok, I thought they were supposed to work all the time anyway so this is good to know, but when jumping it, it still doesn't make them work, but I do here a relay clicking inside the truck when I touch the wire to it so there must be another relay somewhere inside the truck with bad contacts im guessing

Maybe the plugs aren't plugged into the back of the receptacles or they are broke

but I bypassed the relay under the hood and I hear another relay inside the truck click when I do so there must be another relay under the dash for it

was hoping this would be simple easy fix but I guess not

worst case i'll get one of these and just wire them up new taping power from the under hood fuse box http://www.ebay.com/itm/232098913798?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

ya, when I touch the jumper wires in place of the relay I hear a low click from inside the truck so there must be another relay inside that sends power to the plugs and im guessing that one is where the issue is.

im just by myself so no way right now for me to to crawl under dash and listen while someone else touches the wire. :frusty:

will have to find a helper when I have more time to trace it down but I will do the "always on" relay bypass on it for sure once I get power restored to the plugs.

for now I still have the regular cigarette lighter to use for power

if I didn't need to run a little 12v air compressor for a flat lawn mower tire, I might have never realized they weren't working since I never used them

So, you don't have a manual for your truck?

The first thing I do when I purchase a used vehicle, is to buy a Haynes manual. They always include complete circuit diagrams along with everything else needed for most maintenance and trouble-shooting. There is only one relay for this circuit in my '99, the one under the hood.
