Hello. I installed the Anytime Backup Camera kit (ABC kit) and mounted the camera to the front of my Tacoma. The front/rear dual switch that came with the kit worked well but of course I decided to get a “single front camera push button switch” (switch is suppose activate the front camera when pressed) from CH4x4 that I couldn’t get to work properly.

The problem was that the front camera would display when the switch was turned on but it would not display the rear camera when the switch was off and the truck was in reverse.

ok so, After wiring the abc kit to work with front/rear push switch, I am left with a red wire, orange wire, black wire, and green wire.

The back of the new push switch has a green wire, red 1 wire, red 2 wire, and black wire (ch4x4 brand switch).

    UPDATE:
I figured it out. The switch needed a diode. So for those of doing the same or a similar situation this is what worked:

I ended up wiring the abc kit red wire to the ch4x4 green wire.

The abc kit orange wire to the cathode end of the diode (grey line on diode).

The abc kit green wire to the anode end of the diode (as a pig tail). I connected the pig tail wire to the ch4x4 red1 wire.

I tapped the ch4x4 red2 to wire to a stock switch that turned on with the dash lights.

    and finally

The abc kit black wire to a ground point.

The ch4x4 switch now turns on front camera as it should and the truck displays the rear camera when I put it in reverse.

Ok so I messed around with it all morning today. I was able to wire the abc kit red wire to the green switch wire, the abc kit orange wire to the red1 switch wire, the abc kit black wire to the black switch wire, and I piggy backed the abc kit green wire to the red1 switch wire.

I was able to get the switch to turn on the front camera when I push the button on and off. But now when I put the truck in reverse it displays the front camera.

I took apart the double front/rear camera switch that came with the kit and noticed it has a small resistor clip connected to the green and orange wire of the abc kit. I am wondering if this is something I need to wire into the new single switch.

I’m still hoping someone can help me out with this. Thanks.

I think I see two mistakes.

The first one I see is easy. The black wires should "ALL" be connected to a ground (anything metal on the vehicle).
The second problem is most likely more of an issue. The ABC Front/Rear Switch looks to be a 3 position selector switch. And the CH4X4 switch is really just a standard single pole switch. These to switches are totally different and can never be made to work the same way.

Yes for clarification i piggy backed both black wires to a grounding point.

I see. The only reason I’m still hoping this will work is that I once saw someone somewhere have one switch for the front camera and a second switch for the rear camera. Having these two buttons separately. I’m still hoping this can be done.

You can try this. But you will have to add another relay. Not 100% sure if my logic is correct.

So for those of you that are doing the same or a similar situation the switch needed a diode I bought a new one and wired it all in.

The ch4x4 switch now turns on the front camera as it should and the truck displays the rear camera when I put it in reverse.
