Help with component speaker install

Hello-

I have a 2012 access cab with a single din pioneer installed. I am having trouble installig componenets. I have the old speakers removed and the new woofer and tweeter placed in Mr. Marv baffles. The speakers are

$350 Alpine SPR 60c 6.5" Car Audio Component System (Pair)

Alpine SPR 60c. I conducted a continuity test of the tweeter harness and clipped the set of red and black wires (saw this info on this forum). Question - where do i go from here? Connect the red and black to the xover input? What do i hook up the tweeter and woofers too? I'm under the impression i dont use the old woofer wire run that heads down to the woofer? I included some pics of the xover and my current tweeter status. Thanks in advance!

 

Not that I know anything, but I'd assume that if you have plugged the head unit into the car harness, then the signal going to the woofer is full range. That signal should first go to the crossover, and from there to the respective speakers.

I'd want to make sure there isn't another xover somewhere.

 

With that component setup up... You do not need the stock tweeter wires. That setup requires you to run the stock wires from the door speaker into the "woofer". The crossover is then wired off the "woofer" to the tweeter. There is two sets of terminals on the "woofer". You need to look at the paperwork that came with it.

You also will need to figure out a good spot to mount that crossover on the door.

 

Thanks for the insight guys. Total idiot with this kind of work so bare with me. Crossovers are mounted and married to tweeter wires and woofers wires. I just don't know where to go from here. I don't have an amp installed. Where do I get the power from? i assume I run something to the woofer but from where? Thanks guys

 

It's been awhile since I did mine, but I "think" your tweeter mount is mounted on the wrong side of the bracket. It doesn't go on the same as the stock one does. Watch the taco tunes video.

You need to look carefully at the number of wires going to the woofer and tweeter. Which ever one has 4 wires to the connector is where you hook the crossover. For the 2015 it was the tweeter. Previous years (I don't know exactly when), it was the woofer. I cut the tweeter wires and wrapped them off so I could use the speaker adapters on the woofer connector. You need to take the wires that plugged into the stock lower speaker and run them into the replacement speaker.

 

I have no idea why you would run the full signal to the woofer and then to the crossover? Kind of defeats the idea of feeding the speakers the frequencies they should be playing...

 

I don't own a set of these..... with that being said i can't physically look at these to verify if there is a passive filter on the woofer. i have a set of component speakers and they are wired exactly the way you are thinking.

with this set, alpine decided to provide an external passive crossover for the tweeter. this is more common than you think. like i said before, i am willing to bet there is a filter on that speaker. it would be mounted directly to the speaker terminal or on the wire from the terminal to the voice coil.

Yep, here's a pic from the PDF linked above. Stock speaker wires to the woofer, then from the woofer to the crossover, then from the crossover on to the tweeters. And that is a odd way of doing, (to me at least).

 

Thanks for everyones input. I will order some metra harness speakers adapters and hook them up as stated above. I cant believe I spent the entire weekend looking at this setup and only getting this far. Was going to admit defeat and take this nightmare into an audio shop and get laughed at. Thanks again

 

Well, that is one way to do it... I've always seen the signal going to the Xover, then to the speakers. But it has been a while since I've done speakers. I guess I'll figure is out in the coming weeks, when the '15 Taco becomes my winter beater. (Target production date of my 2016 C7 is 11-09) and I really address the junk stereo in the Toyota... I've owned it for a year now and just passed 2000 miles. lol

 

Same as a bypass in the crossover; it's just installed in the woofer. I think they do it that way for ease of install.

 

Ok. What could i possibly be missing?? I hooked up the woofer to the newly purchased woofer harness. The crossover is hooked to both tweeter and woofer in the manner as indicated. No sound

 

Well, i ran speaker wire from the + /- tweeter harness (first pic in this thread) down to the woofer and got sound. I will solder that up and install. thanks for the help with this.

 

Take the harness off of the old speaker. Connect the red wire to the black wire. Re-connect the harness.
