Howdy, my rear driver side door check bolt seems to be toast. It’ll turn to be almost tightened, then spin loose again. I have never drilled out threads to rethread but it still seems cheaper than to have Toyota look at it. Any recommendations on how to repair?

I can’t see if the threads are damaged…is that a Factory bolt?

I cant seen them either, but no, its another one I bought because I was hoping the bolt was stripped out but same problem with new bolt. If i can find the original bolt, I'll post a pic of it.

If it’s stripped you may try pulling the interior panel, and see if you can
get to the backside of it…if so you can get a longer bolt and put a nut on it

Isn't the bolt for that welded inside the frame of the truck?

I have a 2009 but I’ve never had this problem…only way to know is pull the panel and look..or drill and tap it.
Maybe somebody will chime in that knows for sure.

Are you sure you have the correct threads on the Non-OEM replacement bolt?

Yeah I matched it to a 7mm X 1.0mm bolt and found the closest that matched in length

Seems more likely it would be a much more common size. Like 8 x 1.25.

That doesn’t seem right. The head of that bolt of remember correctly is either 10 or 12mm so that can’t be 7mmx1.0

Maybe use the one on the passenger door and see if you get the same results?

Try this OP and let us know what happens.

I agree that size seems off.... And the threads don't appear to be damaged yet.

This here op. If the head of the bolt is 10mm it will be this, if it’s 12mm it’s m10x1.25. But m8x1.25 seems more likely.

These are accurate. I would be surprised to see a M7x1.0 on a Toyota. BMW, not so much. M8x1.25 is very common on Toyotas.
