My 2013 TRD DC 4x4 has developed a slight hum and vibration that I believe is coming from the drivers side front end. My truck has 20,000 miles and the noise to me sounds like a bearing as is constant and doesn't change as the speed changes. It is most noticeable at low speeds around the neighborhood. Any thoughts before I take it in to the dealer.

Doe sit go away in 4wd? If so it is your driver side needle bearing.

Looks like the noise goes away in 4wd. Tracked it down to the diff bearing on drivers side after more research. Guess I'm going to have to choose between the dealer tsb fix and ecgs bushing. Any thoughts on which direction to go.

I wouldn't bother with the dealer. You'll just waste lots of time and probably end up with just another needle bearing.

If I were you I would just install the ECGS bushing and be done with it.

Glad you got it figured out.

If you need an install tool there are some guys passing them around. If you can't find one I'll be happy to loan mine.

A lot. Check out my build page.
Just lifted my 2014 DCSB and immediately became the newest victim of the needle bearing vibration issue. Just scheduled an appointment at my dealership to get the TSB work done to fix the issue. From what I have read up on the new needle bearing is properly fit and resolves the issue. Obviously too early to know if the fix is permanent however, I figure.....let the dealership do the TSB first and if that doesn't do it, THEN I'll look into the ECGS fix.

Did the same today. Going to let the dealer try the tsb fix first while I'm under the warranty. We will see on Monday if it fixes the vibration.

Sounds like a few people have had luck with the TSB. Who knows maybe they did fix it? I doubt it though.

    Good luck fellas!

I've got the tool available if someone needs it. As long as you'll send it to someone else who needs it after you use it- just pay the postage.

Well the dealer has it now and called to tell me they believe it to be a drive shaft issue. They are replacing it and I'm picking it up tomorrow, so we will see. I'm fairly certain that the driveshaft is not going to fix it. They told me if we still have a vibration that they would do the tsb needle bearing.

Hello fellow Tacoma owners ...well I am struggling with the vibration as well a year ago I did wheel bearings it helped but not the cure then the truck went in for the BIG recall FRAME ! so while it was being ripped apart I figured Now was the time to upgrade to Bilstein 5100's but no Lift on the truck also did new shock mount rubber. after 7 Months I got my truck back has a vibration that's getting worse a HUM like a wheel bearing at 30 to 40 But I already did the wheel bearings they have like 7000 miles on them could they have dried up because of sitting for 7 months ??? (anyone know ) so I replaced the enter carrier bearing and u-joints no help I've read about the Needle bearing and I have one from ECGS on the way in the mail does anyone live in the Massachusetts area have the tool I can borrow ? also does anyone know if a Blind Hole bearing puller will work to pull this bearing as I have this puller ? my trucks an 07 dbl cab in near mint con. she's got some age but she runs great and looks great. I am trying to replace all wear and tear Items now that its paid for. its got 127k and I don't have much left to replace. could front axles be causing a vibration (other than the needle bearing problem ) any info is much appreciated ! again anyone have the needle bearing tool I can borrow ?

TSB needle bearing will be going in on Thursday now while I'm on shift. The replacement driveshaft didn't fix the noise and vibration. Update to follow.

Tsb needle bearing is installed and I picked the truck up this morning. So far so good all is quiet in the front end no vibration what so ever. Guess time will tell if Toyota has this problem fixed.

My vibration is around 90 km which you would think is a balance issue, so I've had the front tires re balanced and helped a bit but is getting worse. I'll have them re do it but I have little faith. It seems a bit too fast but I'm going 4x4'n to see if that works.

The test for the needle bearing is to put it in 4wd. If the noise/vibration goes away, that is likely your issue. One way to test the wheel bearings, is if the noise goes away as you take a corner, it is likely the bearing. Ex: If you turn right, and the sound goes away, it is likely the right wheel bearing that's bad, as the some of the weight is taken off that wheel as you turn right.

BTW, check your "Conversations". I sent you one. I have a puller I can give you.

I did my Front Brakes this last Saturday when I took off the Drivers side rotor to replace I tossed it on the ground without giving it a good look on the back side of the spindle it was COVERED with grease mind you no noise at all and tight ...so I picked up the rotor and the back side it was covered in grease. that NEW bearing has failed! .... maybe the needle bearing is worn causing the early demise of the wheel bearing through vibration ? ... either way I'm not going to play games the needle bearing is going and the ECGS bushing is going in ... I'm also thinking CV axle too along with a new bearing setup ! Big shout out to Fitz for offering his removal tool to me for getting the job done hopefully the job goes smooth and there are no surprise's.

might want to check the side input bearings / seals on your front diff also ( the one your CV stabs through going into your diff ) .. i have the same issue, turns out i need a front diff rebuild i will be doing soon.
