Well, 2006 Tacoma, 4.0 litre, automatic tranny. So..if I stick it in R and just let it idle back, no noise, but if I kinda romp on it or give it a little gas there is this horrible noise like marbles bouncing around somewhere in the transfer case or tranny or something-I don't know that's why I am here, yestarday I put the e-brake on and went from P to R and instantly had that really bad sounding noise and took off e-brake and the truck wouldnt move, like its having a hard time engaging in reverse, it only did that once and I cannot recreate the issue there but it still makes a bad noise when in reverse and gas is applied. 2 different people said it sounds like my 4x4 is trying to engage or something..I don't know. Please help. Also at this point in life I am financially effed-getting married in 3 weeks..

torque converter is not what puts you in reverse

the gears and other bits in the tranny put you in reverse

if tc was bad you'd get issues in other gears I imagine
however tc issues can mask themselves as other problems
and there is a chance, though slight, it only reveals itself when picking reverse

still though, if it's the tranny, a rebuild is in your future

get someone else's diagnosis...it may just be ujoints
or something costing a few hundred vs trannies which cost 4 digits

Got it figured out...crazy sometimes things like this. It was a broken driver side motor mount, broken at the weld actually on the frame not the actualy mount it self so tomorrow gonna unbolt the other one jack up engine and re weld the broken area, so when in reverse the engine torques down ward and to the left so it was making the fan hit the guard, when in drive the engine torques the other way which is where it is still supported so tomorrow a generous friend is going to help me jack it up and I am going to weld. So I don't want to screw the structural integrity of the heat treated frame up so I was thinking of weld a little bit and let it cool all the way then continue welding and let it cool etc. until finished. Tranny is fine, but have to get this done asap or it will put torque on other things that will not result in anything good.
