Hope everyone is having a great holiday season.

I bought a SC and 7th injector kit from URD and have finished the install. The power is good and low speed driveablity is the same as N/A.

I have an email support question to URD but they maybe closed till New Years. Thought you guys maybe able to help.

The problem I have is a automatic transmission problem. This truck has a 'throttle by wire' throttle body and a fully electronic transmission.

See the video for the symptom of the problem. The truck is in 2WD Hi transfer and the gear selector lever is in Low position. The truck is on a steep incline (Rower Flat entrance road) and I just release the brake with out any throttle.
Notice at video time 8 seconds the dip in RPM. This is an un-commanded upshift. Then at time 23 seconds the down shift. The up and down shifts seem to be RPM dependent.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfUigGZ_Zwo&feature=youtu.be

When I electrically disconnect the 7th injector controller the problem goes away and the transmission functions normal.

I believe the problem is the way the injector controller modifies the crankshaft and/or camshaft position signal. This might be confusing the trucks ECU and causing the shift problem.

Questions I have are has anyone else with an exact setup as me have this issue?

Does the R4 programming software run on a Win 7 64 bit laptop? I can load and start R4 but cannot enter any data like user name and such. sometime I get an insufficient memory error.
If I can get R4 to work I was going to zero out all the ignition timing map entries to see if that helps the problem.

    Thanks.

I would try posting this in the Turbo BS thread under performance. Those guys could help for sure. I have the R4 software on my laptop with windows 7. Are you sure the controller has a map loaded on it?

You're going to ha e to wait for gadget to get back to you. The electronic throttle is not common really. I'm of no help there.

Be curious to learn the problem though.

Okay thanks guys but everything seems to be good now.
The transmission upshift problem seems to be fixed. I did a rewiring all the 7th injector controller connections. I did not see any wrong connections but Gadget suggested it anyways.
As for R4 on a Win 7 laptop, that turned out to be I had the database saved on a network drive. Old programs generally don't handle that well. Putting the DB of the local drive fixed the issue.

Did a smog test readiness drive this morning. Have no DTC and a green light for sensor monitors. Magnuson sent me a E.O sticker so I'm good to go come July.

Here's the end results, 7 PSI boost with a stock 2.37 pulley is good with me.

Hope all have a safe New Year

Nice those SC's are California emissions compliant? Good to know. Are you happy with the power increase? I have a buddy that builds and races desert trucks and keeps trying to talk me out of a SC, says it's way more work and money than is worth it for the gains in HP and torque.

They help. All depends on your needs. Turbo will be much more power. But for offroad us not as reliable.

Really an LS swap is perhaps the best. But not easy at all with 4wd

I have the same setup (TRD supercharger and URD 7th injector) and I just passed smog last month here in Los Angeles.

The Magnuson blowers now have CARB certification so they should come with a CARB sticker that goes under the hood. As long as you have the sticker (and the serial number matches the product), you're golden.

The URD 7th injector kit, however, is NOT compliant with CARB. It's technically illegal to have that kit on your truck here in CA because you shouldn't pass the visual inspection with it on. IIRC on URD's website it says that the kit is for "racing vehicles only in CA" or something along those lines. However, most smog techs aren't the wiser when it comes to spotting the 7th injector so usually it won't be a problem. I have the computer unit tucked up behind my glovebox so it's out of sight and hard to find if you don't know it's there. The fuel line for the 7th is a braided steel line so it sort of sticks out in the engine bay, I wrapped mine in electrical tape before my inspection so it looked more like the rest of the vacuum lines. Didn't have any issues, the tech looked over everything and said nothing about it.

Only "issue" I did have was that the CARB sticker for my TRD headers stated that they were for an '03 Tacoma and my truck is an '04...the tech told me that he could fail me on that but he wouldn't. CA has some pretty tight regulations on this stuff, unfortunately. Some shops are stricter on the rules than others.

Nice, I'm gonna do it! Screw that guy he probably just expects everything to be a race truck and be a finicky S.O.B.
I'm actually in the process of putting a new engine in my truck so this might have to happen also.

Or I might sell my truck and get an 03-04 4x4 and do it to that.

What was your total cost with this set up?

I bought the package deal that had the SC and 7th injector together for $3500. At the time they had 10% sale going on but that looks to be over.

I'm happy with the power. It definitely won't make any 5.0 Mustangs sweat but is still pulls nicely all the way to redline. Should be able pull 70 MPH with a full camp load up the Tejon Pass.
I actually would not want more power. My trucks auto tranny is kind of soft into second at WOT. As it is now I let off the throttle at about 5000 RPM to take some load off the clutch pack. Already looking at a Transgo shift kit.

Sounds like it is vary enjoyable to drive quick but still reliable. But wow 5k rpm? I imagine your not flirting all the time either to hit 5k often. I don't even think my auto trans gets to 5k ever lol but than I don't have a SC

I also attempted to camouflage the 7th injector as did eon_blue. I painted the hose fittings black from blue anodized. Using a reusable AN4 hose fitting I cut the hose shorter to get a little cleaner install.

    7th Injector Hose.jpg

As kind of a pre-visual smog test I went to my smog guy of ten years and had him look at the supercharge. He is into cars and trucks and was drooling all over it and then he saw 7th injector. He started to say "Wow, it came with a fuel" and then he cut himself short. Later he mentioned everything will be fine if the EO # can be looked up and matches up.
This got me thinking of a plan B. I'll get a AN4 cap for the fuel line Tee fitting. Then next smog check remove the 7th injector with the hose, cap off the tee and tuck the injector wire out of site.

Since you have a '99 your truck might come with EGR...if it does, then you cannot run the 7th injector because the EGR port on your supercharger would have to be used by the EGR system on your truck.

The 7th injector plugs into the EGR port on the supercharger but only works on trucks that don't have EGR and aren't already using that port.

If your '99 does have EGR, then you can look into a methanol injection setup like what @1997tacomav6 is running on his supercharger, or you can look into the larger 6 fuel injector kit that URD sells (I think AEM sells one too)

this is why i love indiana no smog tests. should see all the cars/trucks that emit smoke on the highway/interstate. sure bad for the environment and your engine but it makes it easier to upgrade our trucks.
