I did a search about this subject but could not find any threads regarding upgrading the muffler only. I have decided to take the plunge and want to replace the existing stock muffler on my 15 4.0L Prerunner. My local muffler shop tells me that I should go with the Magnaflow rather than the FlowMaster. I had a FlowMaster 50 Series on my last truck and thought it performed rather well and sounded great. Is he just trying to get me to buy the more expensive MagnaFlow? Also, will this mod effect performance in any negative way such as OBD error codes, warranty, etc.?

The muffler won't have any effect negative or positive on anything other than sound. The sound is subjective so if you prefer the way the Flowmaster sounds then don't let the shop talk you into a different option. They probably have a better margin on the magnaflow so they're trying to talk you into it, that or they honestly like the way magnaflow sounds better. Your truck your choice pick what you like.

Thanks Paul123. They quoted me $320 for a Magnflow XL3 plus labor. I assume they will just be replacing stock muffler and weld in the Mag using existing piping. I am seeing them on Summit for $78 to $84 depending on the inlet / outlet size. I am figuring on $200 in labor plus some misc. parts. Am I being hosed?

Sometimes labor costs more in California, but where I'm at to get a muffler welded in it would be the cost of the muffler+ 1 hour of labor so maybe $150-$200 total cost.
