Im new to Tacoma world and I'm researching putting a new sound system in my Tacoma. I have a 2013 TRD Sport with the basic 6 speaker package. I want to get the Pioneer AVH-4000 NEX HU. My question is, can I get a package including 6.5 component speakers in the front and 6.5's in the back with a sub without an amp and get good clean vibrant music. Will that HU allow me to do that? Or should I just get an amp to power the above set up? Can anyone help and what speakers, sub, and amp would y'all recommend?

    amp amp and amp.
Best setup in these trucks for a given budget thats reasonable is :

    5 channel amp,
    bridged to 3 channels.
Run the 2 bridged channels to your front mids
    3rd channel to sub
Run the rear speakers to " fill " off the head unit.
Deadener the heck out of the front doors and get mids that can do what you want them to do

Im Not partial to any brands for that matter, its mostly what your after sound wise, your taste in music and your budget, I work with that and then find the best equipment for that given budget. If it lines up with what i sell, i sell it, if it doesn't, then i follow to the next best recommendation.

I just installed the NEX 4000 alone with no amp or speaker upgrade in a 2014 TRD and it sounds significantly better. I will explore additional upgrades later. I wanted to see the difference one step at a time while I explore upgrade options. Sonic Electronix had the NEX 4000 for $527.

I have an older Pioneer 3300-BT head unit in my 2011 Taco. I'm running Boston Acoustics components in the front, 6.5" 2-way in the rear doors, and a 12" sub in a custom box I built behind the rear passenger seat. I use a 4-channel amp mounted under drivers seat and a sub amp mounted under passenger seat. I sound deadened the bejesus out of the front and rear doors and the rear of the cab. Honestly, if I get the motivation, I will sound deaden the roof. It blows the stock audio system out of the water.

Boston SR60 in the front doors (with crossovers mounted on doors)
Boston SR65 in the rear doors
    Pioneer AVH-3300BT head unit
    Pioneer GM-6400F 4-channel amp under driver's seat
Kicker ZX400.1 installed under passenger seat
Kicker ComptVT 12" subwoofer (custom made box by me)
