I was watching a tutorial on how to even access it and it looks like the line is clamped down all the way to the transmission, so would that be affected by air? I'm 95% sure its an air passing through something issue due to the fluctuations and conditions when it sings. (I don't know any better so I got start by asking the dumb questions here.)

This video is with the tape on the front windshield which doesn't seem to have affected it. I changed speeds so you can hear the start and stop of the noise.

Taped up the passenger side door to check the weatherstripping. Going out tonight so we'll see if thats it.

    Another thought I had:
Is there any chance this could be coming from the cap on the back?

Did you ever try my idea?

For the record, diagnosing sounds on these trucks is like finding a needle in a haystack. I was convinced for like a year that the squeak I heard was coming from inside the dash, but lo and behold, it was the hood release hatch all the way in front of the grill.

I havent yet because I haven't had the right block of time yet and the weather hasn't been cooperative. I don't have an indoor space so thats been a factor with the rain and cold. I have everything thats been mentioned on a list and there's nothing I won't be checking to try to figure this out, it's just a matter or time. I've only been able to try a few things so far, but I will report each time I try something. If we don't get the snow tomorrow, I may finally get a free afternoon, so good daylight and above 30 degrees to work. :fingerscrossed:

Pretty quick to do it and you can leave the panels anywhere. 3 screws, a few plastic tabs around the outside, and a couple electrical connectors. Off in 5 mins

    Unsuccessful.

I got all the screws out, but the handle and the window crank which as supposed to just pop out did not do so and the plastic started chipping and bending. I don't think I can get them off without breaking pieces which I'd rather not do. Is there a better tool for this job maybe? I was using flathead screw drivers.

Do you have any auto panel removers? That is going to be the best bet, but you got to break a few eggs to make an omelet. 16427155349405008502813009021267.jpg

I don't. I'll have to get some. Thanks.

That's true. I know that will happen, but I'm quite fond of my omelet and didn't want to push it since I wasn't entirely sure I was doing it right. Also, the previous owner was a friend who passed away recently, so I'm slightly sentimental about maintaining its original condition it at the moment.

Look at it this way, you can pull some panels and apply some tape for 50 to 75$ or... you can pay to have someone try and diagnose it and be wrong.
Guaranteed you have more time than money. :fistbump:

    Agreed.

Paying someone to diagnose it is my last step right now cause I do have time and energy which is why I am making attempts to do everything myself for now. That said, I have a very untrained ear and am entirely ignorant in this field, so the learning curve is steep. Obviously, problems are not ideal, but I think enjoying the learning process is important which I am, so I currently have the patience to keep trying. There's a wealth of knowledge here and I like learning from other people and then practicing.

    win win

You are not alone in this.... many of us have squeaks, creaks plus chatter from wind noise. You'll eventually find it and it will be more satisfying than paying off the IRS

Oh you have a manual window, idk how to deal with that. The handle pushes forward and kinda swings out.

There’s a spring clip that holds the window crank on, did you get that removed? There’s a special tool for it at the local auto parts store, or some people have had luck with wrapping a rag around (see YouTube)

I didn't. I was looking for it cause I did see that in the videos I watched before I started. I was having trouble with it and the handle. I'm planning to pick up some tools and give it another try...probably not tonight in the dark and on the ice though.
