After messing around a bunch with wiring behind the kick panel under the steering wheel, I've apparently managed to break my parking brake pedal because the ratcheting mechanism no longer engages unless I push it in with my finger. To be clear, the brakes themselves engage just fine when the pedal is pushed, it's only the pedal itself I'm having trouble with.

Hoping someone can help me figure out if there's a spring or something I'm missing, and where it goes/what it looks like. I'd rather not source an entire new pedal assembly over a dumb spring if I can help it.

Yes, you are missing the spring on the silver colored pawl. Can't see it due to the way the pedal is assembled, but it is definitely broken or disconnected or missing entirely.

I have the pedal assembly out of my truck. If you can’t fix yours and need a new one let me know.

    Just a thought:

Since you have yours out of the truck maybe see if you could post a picture of the missing spring so as to help the OP fix his or locate a replacement spring or reattach his....

Thanks guys! That'd be awesome. If it ever stops raining today I'll go try and pull the pedal and see if I can get a better look in there. Hopefully it's just disconnected and not disappeared...

Well I feel a bit dumb, I spent like 30 minutes wrestling that thing out of there only to find it works perfectly now and the spring on the pawl is completely intact. Guessing something just fell in there and jammed up the ratchet and I knocked it out while messing around with it. Since I've got it out, I'll take some pics of the mechanism for this thread in case anyone needs em in the future...

Well, I never did really figure out what was wrong with it, but here's a video of the mechanism and some pics if it helps anyone else in the future. Luckily for me, just taking it out and putting it back in fixed my issue. Unluckily for anyone who actually breaks it, it looks like this thing is pretty much pinned together as a single assembly, so I'm not sure you could repair it without modifying it. Getting it out and back in was probably a little over an hour job, but it feels way longer when you're on your back under the dash for most of it. It's pretty sharp and stabby back there, I probably should've worn gloves...

The nuts for the three pedal studs are 12mm and the two brake cable nuts are 10mm. Having both wrenches and ratchets on hand will make your life easier, I used a crazy extension to make my cordless ratchet fit the lower 2 bolts because I'm lazy like that. A pair of needle nose and a screwdriver help unclip the brake cable, and a stubby screwdriver helps free the wiring connector that's hiding up top. I used an allen wrench to push the brake cable out of the pedal, but anything skinny and a few inches long should do the trick.

View of the spring from the bottom, it did NOT look like it would be feasible to replace just the spring though without a lot of effort :/ The way the two halves fit together covers it up really well, and there's no clear way to separate them.
