Hi- This is my first thread and need help. I have a 2013 double cab Prerunner and put Bilstein 5100's all around to level the truck. I set the front at 1.75 and got some Pro Comp 7032 flat black wheels with 275/70/17 BFG's. Looks good but I have had it to ORW 3 times to try to fix a vibration in the wheel at higher speeds. They re-balanced and even checked the alignment and it didn't fix it. I heard about hub centric rings and demanded they put them on (108mm to 110mm ring) and it seems better but still exists. Any thoughts??? I'm at a loss.

The truck only has 2600 miles, do you think it still could be a bearing? It was fine with the stock wheels...

Shouldn't be a bearing with that many miles. Weird that it would be the rims though. The bigger tires might have something to do with it though. Either your not use to bigger tires or they can't get them balanced correctly. I have 285/75r16 Mickey Thomson MTZ's. Where I am from they have a balance setup called "road force" balancing. Usually balanced them perfect. It puts actual pressure on the tires while balancing. Maybe find out someone that has that?

I called pro comp and they said I should try doing the lugs by hand vs. the impact that may have been used. I may try the roadforce as well...I called a guy and he would do it for $20 per wheel, not sure if that's reasonable.

Make sure you tighten in a star pattern. I had a set of Pro Comps on my old truck and did not have any issues without hub rings.

I just recently put the new rims on and had the vibration. Try the star pattern when tightening the lugs. Make sure you hand tight them enough while the wheels are off the ground.

Thanks- will try hand tightening them tonight. Should I go with 85 ft/pounds?

The pro comp 7032s have a weird shape inside the wheel that throws off most technicians when balancing the wheel. Have them measure from the inside spoke to the outer edge of the wheel. You know how I know this? I had the same issue with my 7032s in 16x8 last week. I am also using hub centric rings (108-106 in my case). My truck only has 18k miles. No vibration prior to installing the wheels. Hope that helps you track it down.

Thanks Itsr! Did you end up fixing the issue and did you have to pay for the road force? So many techs are measuring from the wrong spot causing them to put weights in the wrong place? wow...great tip thanks.

The issue is fixed. Instead of the younger technicians, the manager did the balancing when I came back. I watched him balance the wheel with 1/2 less weights than what the previous tech used. I did not road force balance, though I did think about it as an option if this didn't work.

If you look inside the wheel, right before the spoke the angle changes. Not sure how to explain it. All I know is that my problem is fixed. I'm also using these lug nuts:

Where are you guys getting your hub centric rings from? I've had the same issues with mine. I get a small steering wheel shake at about 60 mph that I wouldn't mind getting rid of...

Thanks for all of the advice. I have the extended lugs as well...not sure the brand but the shop that installed said I needed them. I bought the hub centric rings on Amazon...they are made by Gorilla. http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Automotive-108-106-1-Centric-106-1mm/dp/B0032HQJ7G

I think I am going to replace with the new rings I ordered on all 4 corners, re-torque lugs by hand and see how it feels...if I still have the problem I may just go the road force option. I found a shop that will do it for $20 per wheel.

Thanks Itsr, I wish I could explain to these guys how to measure the wheel but I think the shop was already bothered by me pressing the issue. Do you think the road force will have the same result as a good experienced tech on the regular machine?

Yes- when I went to the shop last time they re-balanced and checked alignment and then I forced them to put the rings on the front and it did make a difference. The vibration really happens only on certain types of road now...meaning I can drive on certain parts of the freeway smoothly but other parts still have the minor shake. I don't think you can loose for $12 to give it a try.

Since we have the same size wheels, this is what i'm using:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032HQJ7G/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would go back and have them re-do it again. You paid to get it done correctly. If they can't get it right, ask for a full refund until they get it right. Road force balance will probably fix it since those guys will get the balancing correctly but you should NOT have to fork out another $80+ and more of your time to fix the original shop's mistake or lack of knowing how to balance properly.

I have fixed the problem. I went to a local wheel and tire shop that had the road force balancer and found the front two tires were out of balance and one of the back wheels had way too much weight. So I had them road forced for $100 and had the hub centric rings added in the back as well and it feels like stock! I took the bill to ORW (the offroad shop that installed them) and they gave me a $100 refund. Learned they were balancing lug centric wheels only using the cone...not the hub adapter. What a joke...the manager wouldn't even look at me, I would be embarrassed as well. Thanks everyone for the advice!
