What's up guys I know a bit about wiring radios but not enough to figure this out. Basically I bought the truck with an aftermarket Headunit installed and one day it stopped working. So while trying to figure out why i pulled everything apart and found a decently installed but very unmanaged cable mess. The PO I believe had it installed by bestbuy when the truck was new. Everything is hardwired and spliced in. Looks like it's split to a steeringwheel control unit and to the radio harness. I basically want to try and eliminate the hardwired aftermarket harnesses and go back to the stock harnesses so I can go with a plug n play setup as they are readily available now. Only problem is I really don't know where to start besides going one by one through the wires, I also can't find a wiring diagram. Here's some photos to show what I'm currently dealing with.

My airbag light also came on my dashboard around the same time don't know if that's related or not.

(Forgot to mention I had already checked all the fuses including the fuce on the back of the radio.)

I can get more photos if needed as I am leaving everything taken apart until I get this resolved. So all the wires are easily accessible.

    That is a mess:eek:

I can pull a diagram and pinouts and post it later (I'm not at my PC right now), you say it does have JBL with the separate amp?

Yes it's a terrible mess I'm not a wiring expert or electrician but I can say I have much better cable management than whoever installed this setup

Not 100% on the separate amp but if that's what the jbl package comes with then yes. I figured it was just a jbl package or non jbl. I know I do have an aftermarket amp for my subs under the seat.

I appreciate it when you get around to getting that info I'm not in a rush as I don't drive the truck all that often

I wouldn't even bother going back to stock at this point. The PO has already made this route more difficult with an aftermarket HU and amp and that mess of install. Remove all wiring that is associated with the aftermarket HU harness and get another HU from Crutchfield. They can provide you all the necessary adapters for steering wheel controls and hookup along with excellent tech support to make the new install less complicated. Then confirm the wiring of the amp. (Fused power to battery/short ground/RCA/switched 12V to HU).

This is all I can find as far as wiring and pinouts, you have to see what you have.

Alright so I'm having tons of fun tracing this wiring everywhere. It looks like they ran speaker wire from the steering wheel control unit to the jbl amp and used (line converters?) From there to a strobe box or aftermarket amp for the subs. (Guessing the PO had a sound/lightshow setup) I don't need any of that I just want to have a good sound setup.

I picked up a new pioneer HU and a maestro rr so now I'm at the point of trying to figure out what I can get rid of/how to get rid of it without destroying my truck. And installing the new HU/Maestro.

The door speakers are also upgraded which is a plus because they are nice alpine speakers. One less thing to spend money on.

Anyways here's more pics of my wiring to see what tips yall might have for me

Speaker wires from Steering wheel control box:

Traced those under the glove box that get spliced into brown/orange wires and run to the JBL amp in the pic below:

    20220416_120624.jpg

Then more factory wires from the JBL harness get spliced into the line converters:

Followed those back behind the subs and unto the strobe box:

There's still an aftermarket amp and some unknown rca wires not attached to anything. Maybe setup for bass control knob but here's a photo dump of the unknown setup:

That's it I really appreciate any and all help
