HELP WITH RED TOP OPTIMA

I bought a 35 series red top Optima today and my first attempt to install was a failure. The cables will not reach the top post. I noticed someone else had a yellow top that looked to be the same configuration but mounted to the side post. Is there a top to side adapter? He mentioned something about an adapter, but the other way around (side to top). I need some suggestions on making this fit. If it will work, the next thing I want is one of those really nice billet trays that secures the battery from the base. But lets get it working first.

 

The plastic adapter doesn't help with the harness. It is for adding height to the battery, which is not a problem.

 

you need to get either the 35 series or 75 series red top...which 1 did you get?

 

I've got the 35. The top post are too far to reach and if I turn it around to mount it with the side post, they are on the wrong side and my body ground won't let my negative cable reach???

 

you can always place the battery as close as possible towards the fuse box...I had to do that with my 35 series...

then I put my 35 series in my chicks altima and put a 75 series instead with a custom mount...

Lay it on side and cables will reach. Had to do this on a 2007 TRD.

 

pics of my setup? or pics of his 35 series where its not reaching the positive and negative terminals?

 

I can lay it on it's side without any negative effects? I'm assuming you used the top post? Does optima have a recommendation since this is the battery they list to fit the tacoma?

 

I'd like to see pics of your 75 setup with custom mount

 

I hope someone will provide pics of the problem and solution as I was considering going with Optima but not if it is a major hassle. Thanks.

 

If someone has a solution, I will post some pics of the problem and proposed solution. I don't want to go through the hassle again without a possible solution.

 

yes that is the point of the optima batteries. they are one of the only(if not THE only battery that can do this and wont spill and will function perfectly normally)

 

I had one in my 2007 TRD for 2years with it on the side and no ill effects. Would post pic but sold it last week and bought new TRD.

 

I can' remeber who sells a nice buillet mount for the Optima, but I mounted both mine on the SuperDuty I had on the frame rails. Made a lot of room in the engine compartment.

 

I have a D34/78 Yellow Top with sideposts. The posts are opposite from the factory battery. The factory positive cable was long enough to extend to the sidepost but I had to buy a longer negative cable that was long enough to reach.

I use the top posts for my amp and added fuse block.

 

Here's another picture of when I had the Red Top, same battery size as the Yellow Top I have now.

 

Take it back and get a Sears Diehard,fits perfect,and better than Optima without any special mounts

 

Why did you buy one color and switch to the other ? Curious George

 

I have a buddy that works at a battery shop and let me trade straight up. The Yellow Top is a deep cycle and a better battery for my needs.
