I have a jbl Tacoma and the PO butchered the connections behind the seats and put in two subs...in planning on completely removing all the subs and Amps and simply installing a new deck and wiring all 4 door speakers to the head unit..

The PO installed new speakers and tweeters but I have NO clue what they are or how they are wired.

The drivers side door speaker doesn't work BUT the tweeter works.

Does anyone have a diagram for how to wire the tweeters? Or a link to the proper crossover? I assume it already has one but no idea

Since the door speaker doesn't work should I just replace the fronts while they're out ?

    Thanks!!!

So I opened the door panels and this is what I found....where is the crossover??? What's the deal with the resistor on drivers side only?

Your PO added some shitty and unnecessary tweeters to an already full range 6x9 speaker. The resistor is a feeble attempt at a crossover. You said you were going to replace everything anyway so why not completely start over and replace all the speaker wires from doors to HU. Your choices for front door speakers are either a 6.5" component set with a separate tweeter and proper crossover, or replace those current ones with a decent set of 2 or 3 way 6x9's and forget about the separate tweeter. The rear doors will be fine with a set of 6.5" coaxials.

With how butchered the install looks fron the PO. Running all new wires from the new HU to each door would be the route id go. Its not as difficult as it seems and since you could remove the carpet to make it easier, you could also clean/shampoo/steam clean the carpet while youre at it.

6.5 speakers will give you more options. MR.MARV could get you adapters if you dont want to make your own.

With those alpines its super easy to wire.

I am running some 6.5 polk audio components from sonicelectronix, they were something like 79.95 or around there. I did add in a dayton rs180 3" full range with an inline crossover to block out everythinv under 600hz and put the tweeter in the a pillar. I like it.

If you want a bit more power to the system with minimal extra work, an amp like the alpine power pack is a nice addition

I keep getting mixed feedback on whether I will need a crossover with those alpines? Someone said I need a resistor too?...it would be nice to just plug the tweeter into the woofer instead of wiring crossovers

Were you planning on buying new speakers? Usually a component set comes with a crossover that matches. You could possibly look for some used ones on ebay that are meant for component setups. Based on those pictures you are best off getting new speakers if you have not already. I may have missed that. Used to run Polk Audio separates and they were nice. Mated to a 4 channel amp with 50w or so to each set.

Those have an inline filter. As far as i recall you will run the main (+)(-) to the woofer and then theres a second set of terminals to connect the tweeter wires to.

I replaced my stock setup (non JBL). Just pulled new wire.

I have Rockford Fosgate 6x9s and 1" tweets. I bought Fosgate crossovers as well and adapters from Mr Marv. Running it off a 200 watt amp and it sounds killer.

I wasn't about to mess with the stock wiring in mine to begin with. The fact that you know yours is FUBAR is all the more reason I recommend the fresh start.

That's exactly what I thought too but other members are telling me that won't work and I need resistors and stuff...

Also for those speakers do I use a 1" tweeter mount ?

Not sure why they say ya need a resistor, thats news to me and i installed car audio/video for a while on all sorts of cars.

The black heat shrunk section of the tweeter wires has everything needed for the tweeter to prevent low frequencies.

To mount the tweeter you can cut a bracket to fit the tweeter out of 1/4 mdf or whatever the thin size is to mount to the factory tweeter bracket mounts and flush mount it using the threaded rings (pictured lower right above the screws) and then bolt it in place.

Or go the quick and dirty route and use some plumbers strap (galvanized strap with holes every few spaces) and glue the tweeter to that and bend it until the holes line up.

Yes. Mr Marv sells them. I used a set when I added my tweets and love em.

Trust me, pay Marv the $20 or so and save yourself the headaches.
