Hey I was just wondering if any knows about interchangeable parts? I have a 2018 TRD Sport. I bent the passenger side steering knuckle. The dealership wants over $1,400 to fix it so I’m gunna tackle it myself. I went to order the part and it’s around $400. Partsgeek.com has it a little cheaper but it’s not OEM. It’s Dorman. And it says that part is interchangeable all the way to 2005. So does anyone know if Dorman makes quality parts? And is it actually interchangeable with Tacomas back to 2005? Is it worth grabbing one at a junk yard? And if there is anything I should know about this removal/install?

Good luck, seriously. I also want to hear how you bent the knuckle, this has to be a good story. Is that all that is bent?

Go to the Toyota parts website and check. They will cross reference back to other years. I cant say for sure, but a lot of parts are similar between 2nd and 3rd gen trucks.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Steering knuckles or Spindles haven't changed since 2005 to current. The part number differences you may find would probably be between a 2WD and 4WD referring to the caps installed. I have a set of third gen spindles from a 2017 if you are interested. They aren't that hard to bend and should be gusseted if not crawling through parking lots.

    Welcome to the show...

would the 2wd and 4wd knuckles be similar and interchangeable ? also trying to find out what the numbers stamped on the knuckles are, I know the letters are left and right but trying to find out what the numbers represent ie 36L6 and 39R1.

Yes, 2WD and 4WD are the same. The cap for the 2WD are the only difference and they are removable. Not sure of the stamp decode. Perhaps identifies the batch they were made with and when in case of recall or failure? Just a guess. Are you in need of a set, shoot me a PM.

I just bent my drivers side spindle. OP, intrigued how your Dorman Spindle worked out?
