So I worked through all of the installation instructions for the Techstream I bought from this fellow
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/301582918672?item=301582918672&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
on Ebay a couple of weeks ago...
Seemed like it was installed correctly, but when I tried to connect it to the truck I could not get past a screen that wanted me to register the software, or enter a registration key.
Anyone have any quick help or hints on this one?
Undoubtedly something obvious and easy that I am just missing.
    Thanks in advance,
    TjB

I've looked at these pirated-from-China offerings a 100 times and came close to purchasing one. I read so many different accounts of what to do that I got dizzy.

That said, many seem to have had success getting it to work. There are countless discussions on it at various Tundra and 4Runner forums. Many other Toyota yack sites as well.

From what I can gather, getting past the password/registration thing requires that you use a specific hacked *.dll that's available at many of these sites. The challenge may be getting one that's compatible with your OS and maybe even more importantly the drivers. There's also mention of editing a text file - changing 1 to 0 or vice-versa.

    Keep digging.

One of these days I'll buy a scanner that has 99% of what I need. Right now I'm leaning towards these guys:

Replace original file "MainMenu.exe" with cracked version off the CD.

Then start Techstream and go to "Software Registration" and paste this registration number:

    1111111111111111111111111111111110001511111111

This code is for every area the same

    Thanks,
I thought I had done the 1st step above, maybe it did not take when I did it, but it did this time.
Then I did not need the registration number.
Got the seatbelt chime turned off, will look at it in more depth later on and see what else I might be able to alter...
    Thanks again,
    TjB

@Jimmyh is Techstream something you consider worth investing in?

Techstream is useful, especially if you have multiple Toyotas, Lexus or Scion cars in the household fleet. I just recommend using a quality 'ODB to USB' cable - if its a crappy and cheap one that takes 4 weeks to arrive from place its made (like the one I bought), all of the functions may not work properly in the software. (ie. I cannot command my 2010 Rav4 sunroof or windows to open even though the options are in the software; also, there are comm dropout issues if a crappy cable is used, and finding drivers is always painful.) Its the very best code reader equipment you can use with your Toyota. However, I'm not sure I would ever attempt flashing the ECU with it.

I haven't used or obtained the latest version lately - its very clunky to navigate through, but it does get the job done once you get used to the GUI. Also, last time I used it about 2 years ago, Toyota was still requiring a Windows XP computer. I was able to get it running and 'talking' with Windows 7 Pro w/ WinXP mode, but that convenience no longer exists if your using Windows 8 or 10. You need to know what your doing if you are going to run WinXP as a virtual machine and expect USB devices to work properly.

And that is one of the biggest reasons I won't invest in the hacked versions of Techstream/OBD Cable available on ebay. Many of the cables these offshore sellers provide are pure junk. The cable Toyota offers costs a fortune. For less $$$ than what that costs, I can buy Autoenginuity with a Toyota interface.

Yes I do. It was one of the first things I got when I found out about it's availability on ebay cheap. My entire family drives Toyotas. So it does come in handy, esp since they always bring their issues to me. :|

I have a dedicated Windows XP on an Acer Aspire One I use just for the techstream software.
