After reading through here it seems like E load tires are terrible. I was recommended falken wildpeak at3w in a C load. I had maxxis razr at811 on my van and love how they look and rode. I thought they only came in E, but found they have p285/70r17. Not sure what P tires mean but see the following

    Maxxis (p285/70/17)
    Weight - 44lbs
    Load rating - 2833
    Dia - 32.6
    Max psi - 44

    falken at3w (285/70/17 C)
    Weight - 63.7lbs !!!
    Load rating - 2755
    Dia - 32.8
    Max psi - 50

So the maxxis is lighter with a higher load capacity. Is a P tire capable as far as towing/off roading/rock? I was very surprised seeing the C load weight of the falkens. The E load maxxis are even lighter than that! Any advice appreciated.

It doesn’t show on their site the ply or letter load rating for the P tire in that size. I just want to make sure it’s at least close to a C tire as far as puncture resistance for off roading and able to hold up towing

It shows it’s a 117T which I saw is 118mph and 2892 lbs. so that’s better than even the KO2 in a C load and still much lighter.

P is for "passenger" and has a 4 ply rating. same as the stock tires. if you are going to offroad and tow, I would not choose them. you can tell by the weight, that they are not a heavy duty tire.... those falcons are super heavy though. I think C load KO2's in that size are something like 53lb.

I guess I don’t understand how it can be a weaker tire if it has a higher tow rating. It seems like sidewall strength would directly correlate with tow rating of a tire. Was just hoping maxxis was different and had stronger sidewalls being that it had a higher tow rating than the other tires mentioned here

What you are comparing can be a little misleading...
The P-metric attains it's max load capacity at 35 psi, regardless of the 44 max psi. Anything above 35 psi is to maintain speed rating.
The C-rated tire attains it's max load capacity at 50 psi.

P-metric and euro-metric tires are also derated for use on trucks/suvs.
Short of it...you need a psi that attains a 2,149 lbs load capacity from P and euro metric or 1,954 lbs from an LT.
