I have a head unit that uses a module to connect to my OBDII port. I constantly monitor my coolant temperature while towing and have never gone over 195°.
I’m 71 and my personal vehicle since I got my license at 16 has always been a stick shift. I grew up in West Virginia so you became proficient quickly or else.

This simply isn't true. They stopped putting manuals in because autos surpassed them in fuel mileage, and the fleet has to hit a target for EPA. And that was like 10 years ago that they stopped being an option in most trucks, with a few exceptions.

As far the OPs question, yes. I haul a 16' flatbed car hauler occasionally. The trailer itself is 2000-2500lbs. I haul building materials and try to keep the load of lumber/sheet metal etc at 1000lbs or less. When I push 3500 I can feel it, but it is doable. I try not to work it harder than that. This is a 2012 4.0 with 6spd manual. The only bad part is backing up, but I will be doing the 2lo mod shortly. Before, I had a 2016 with 3.5 Auto and hauled a bed load of stuff, back seat full of stuff, and a uhaul car trailer with a 3 series BMW from Washington to Oklahoma, over the Rockies in winter, without issue. Did get down to 45 or so on some bigger passes. These trucks can tow more than people give credit, just know the limits.
