Pretty new to Tacoma’s. My truck currently has a set of fuel wheels with 275/55/20 tires on it. I’d like to keep my wheel/combo in good condition and out of all of the salt and grime in the winter. Should I just look for a set of used stock wheels and add tires to that or buy all brand new? Anyone know what tire size is similar to the 275/55/20? Thanks in advance

    That's about 265/75/16. I use .

Personally I got cheap black steel wheel for winter. They get rusted and stuff so I don't care as much. Also don't feel the need to upsize. Unless you're snow wheeling or something, city driving even in snow, stock size is just fine.

    This is the best advise.

With winter you want smaller rims for less build up on the inside of the wheel against the brakes.

16" is the cheapest, and also offers the most sidewall for a soft flexible tread.

I personally run 245/75R16 on my winters for the best ice grip, but if you want thicker, stick to 265.

20" steelies? Why not go 16" stock toyota. I bet you can find a set.

The word "tacoma" is fucked on craigslist right now. I've been searching for a bunch of rims, prices are bonkers.

This was my solution, 2005 Tundra 16" wheels with Nokian winters. $100 off Craigslist. Sand blasted and painted Dark Charcoal Metalic. Good enough for winter use.

New steel rims are about $80 each if you can't find suitable used. Always preferred a narrow tire for winter use. Less chance of hydroplaning on slush and heavy rain.

Do I have to run the same overall diameter of the regular tire so buy something equivalent in size for 16” wheel or can it be smaller?

245/75/16 are stock on SR and SR5 and probably best for size for street winter tires. It's smaller than your summer rubber. Might even like the power boost...

You can buy smaller, I believe the SR and SR5's came with 245/75R16's. I went with the 16" stock equivalent of 265/70R16's. IMHO for speedo accuracy the equivalent is better.

I bought some used 2nd Gen 16” steel rims from Craigslist for super cheap. Then I bought TPMS sensors and skinnier-than-stock 245/75/16 Blizzaks from Discount Tire.

I can recommend this set up and was really happy with them in the Chicago city winters and now up here in rural Ontario Canada.
