I purchased a premade harness from Superbright LEDs. The harness came with a fused relay connection and a basic switch with (3) wires seen below:
    Capture.jpg

I would like to install this switch...

    upload_2015-8-29_13-2-28.jpg

The GND and ACC are self-explanatory to me. When I used the switch the harness came with, I was able to verify power to the lights. However, when I try the aftermarket switch, I verify ACC power to the switch (it illuminates) and power from the SOURCE (verified with voltmeter). But when the switch is depressed there is no power out to the lights. I have the switch wired in the following manner:

    -BLK/GND
    -ACC/ to Fused Location
    -WHITE/FROM SOURCE
    -BLUE/TO AUX

Just a note: I am not opposed to ordering a new switch or breaking down the harness if it make my life easier.

    Thanks in advance.

I think you need to swap the aux wire to the ACC wire. Can you post a link to the switch you bought?

Is the white wire going to pin 86 on the relay or straight to the battery?

I will have to cut the harness and report back to you. Thanks for looking into this. Do you think would it be easier just to buy another switch?

I took a look at the wire diagrams for the harness...

The way you have it wired should be correct. You may have a bad switch.

Does your voltmeter have the ability to do a continuity check?

Thats what i was thinking. I only have a voltage checker which lights up upon power. I will stop at Lowes to get one with a continuity function. What should I check for?

I am by no means an expert in electrical, but I did just wirw up some switches this week.

By the looks of that switch, the lower words should light up independently of the upper, that would be where red 2 comes in. They would light up when your lights turn on. The upper emblem should light up when the switch is pressed only, and pulls power as it travels through the switch to the relay. If you have it wired correctly, it may be the switch. The ones that I used from OTRATTW (http://www.otrattw.net/home.php) actually have5 pins. What I was told is the way the Tacoma works it needs a pos and neg for both the upper and lower lights in the switch, not sure if that may be your issue.

For the switch you linked, white should be from your power source and include some sort of in line fuse. That would go to green on the harness you linked.

Blue would connect to red 1, that will trigger the relay.

Red 2 would be connected either with an add a fuse in the in cab fuse box or spliced in to some accessory that comes on when the dash lights are on, this should light up the text on the switch when the lights are on.

    Black ground as you said.

If that doesn't make sense let me know, electrical is actually about me least favorite thing to do but I am beginning to understand it a little finally haha.

well i didn't mean for you to go and buy new tools.... but at least now you can troubleshoot any electrical problem.

first thing you will need to do is make sure the wires are not live. make sure the power wire from the battery is disconnected and the switch power source for the switch. you can leave the ground wire connected on the harness.

starting with the switch. you need to verify the correct wires being activated when the switch is in the on position.

with the voltmeter in the continuity setting, test wires on the switch.
test wires 1 & 2 - make sure you cycle the switch at least once. this will make sure the switch wasn't in the off position.
if you confirm those wires are "connected" in the ON position, then these will used to activate the relay.
if you confirm those wires are not connected, then try testing 1 & 3 the same way.

if this results with no connection.... then you have a bad switch.

all the diagrams have pins 1 & 2 going to the relay and should be the ones that show connected.

I am thinking it may be the switch..however it illuminates as you mention..I have the ACC going to the tail lights so that the switch illuminates when the tails are on and when the button is depressed the indicator light also comes on. However, there is no power out to the harness where the lights will be connected.

Now when I use the 3 prong switch included with the harness everything works fine. So I know its not the fuse or relay. I will take a closer look this afternoon.

Thanks for taking the time to write this up. I know enough to get by bit this is very helpful. I'm always looking for an excuse to buy new tools esp. if they will be useful on the future.

Wow OP, I just tried the exact same thing with the exact same switch. I tried to use that switch on my light bar. Same as you, not a electrical wizard but can follow directions pretty well. I also got the switch to illuminate when the lights were turned on, the little light lights up when switch is pushed, but again no power to turn the light bar on. As of now I have it with the switch that came with the bar and it works perfect. I was going to mess again with it today and see if I can figure anything out, if I do I will let you know.

Maybe it isn't just the switch then.

Well after switching some wire around and wiring up an addition ground, still no power to the light. I'm baffled at this point. Back to original switch for now.... Again!

What about adding a jumper from the ground to the green wire? I thought about it but didn't try it. Did you happen to look at the wiring for the other switch you can buy from them? They splice the ground to a 5th pin.

Actually I did look at that. Might go out again on a bit and try more configurations.

I would consider contacting who makes the switch instead of the relay harness.

I would confirm you are getting a full 12 volts at the end of the white wire to the switch.

You could also try flipping the white and blue wires going into the switch. There could be a very small chance that might work.
