I'm trying to wire up my Garmin Dash Cam to the power source in the rear view mirror. I want the Dash Cam to power on and charge, then power off when the ignition is turned off (just like it does when plugged into the cigarette lighter).

I cut the factory car charger to length and used the wire tap connectors as seen in the photos. White wire into the green 12v and silver wires into the white w/ stripe. When I turn the ignition on, it powers up the camera but doesn't charge or power down when I turn the ignition off...just turns it on.

    Any suggestions?

I tried this thought process for my go pro. Didn't get it to work...ended up running and hardwiring it to the cigarette lighter circuit.

This post is unhelpful, but provides an alternative if you are unable to get it working as you desire...
