By far the best UL reel in it's price range. The Okuma RTX-25S has been my go to reel for the past 5 years. It's better then anything else out there and I've tried them all at this point. The drag is so smooth I've never once lost a fish because it heat locked. It's been beat and bashed and still lands me fish every time I'm out. Which is a lot.

    https://www.okumafishing.com/en/product/rtx-spinning-reel.html

If you want to get into UL more look at longer rods. The stuff in the 8' range is perfect. When you need to huck 1/32 ounce jig heads that length is critical for getting out there. The longer rod is also a lot more forgiving when you get a 10lb fish on that wants to jump or give violent head shakes.

I use an Okuma Connoisseur 9' ultralight. For a cheap rod it's treated me well. So well that I haven't upgraded it in 7 years. They don't make them anymore but any Steelhead rod would be what your looking for.

Of course not and for a good reason. We don't delete them in case the buyer needs to report the seller.

I just wish people would stop deleting all the info in the first post after they sell something... Like I want to see what you sold it for so I have a baseline for prices.

I've got something I bet a bunch of people have never heard of. A Lamiglas 8' Kokanee rod. You can bend it completely in half, it's like a whip lol. Fish Kokanee in Tahoe and Stampede Reservoir occasionally.

Lamiglas makes a good rod. For the longest time I was a G. Loomis snob. Then I realized it hurts a lot less to break a $60 rod then it does a $250 rod. lol

I have a couple custom built fly rods we just won't talk about.

Seriously though, a $60 rod 99 times out of 100 does just as good as its expensive brethren. My dad fishes G. Loomis rods and seems to catch just about as many salmon as I do on my cheaper rigs.

You could always try not breaking them. Works for me. :notsure:

Shit happens when the weather's ugly. Slip on a rock, boat tosses you to the side with a fish on, and every now and then it's dark out and your tailgate was half an inch too short for your rod tip

When I first got back into fishing I got ugly stik gx2 combos. They are like $49 with a reel. I felt much better about stepping on or dropping one overboard when they cost so little. But now since my uncle sent me some nice rods, I'll probably start buying better setups this year and just keep all the ugly stiks as loaners or when im bank fishing.

I went a little overboard last year when buying rods :)

    I ended up getting
    Spinning
    4f6in ultra light
    6f medium
    6f6in medium
    6f6in medium
    7f heavy
    6f6in 4 piece travel

    Casting
    5f6in medium
    6f medium
    6f6in med heavy
    6f6in med heavy
    7f heavy

Then I got a dock runner (36 inch)
a light, medium and heavy ice rods

These are all ugly stik gx2 rods BTW

For reels I went with 2 lews LRZ reels for the 6f6in, the rest of the spinning rods are using the reels that came with the combos. On the bait casters they all have abu black max reels (1 right hand, and the rest are left hand)

Then I got a pair of quantum reels and a basspro shop rod from a garage sale, then my uncle sent me 5 more rods and 4 more reels (quantums and shimanos)

So in all I have 21 rod and reels that are all lined up and ready to use.

So your gear room looks about like mine. Love it.

I would like to try ice fishing once, never done that. After GME I'll come over in the winter and lets put a shed on a lake and drink beer and catch almost frozen fish.

    Im in!

I need to clear out my storage room this summer. Its full of old baby stuff and things I have not touched in 10 years. Once I clear out that room, Im setting up my fish tanks in there to be minnow tanks to have my own bait shop in the basement. Then peg board for baits, rod racks everywhere and shelves for all my stuff.

First you have to intentionally fall in the frozen lake and then show the scouts how to get out of the water unassisted...Scout leader did this in a February NH frozen lake...pretty impressive to witness...Basic rule is use your arms bent at 90° to pull yourself up high enough to "roll" onto the ice...We also had venison stew (VERY FRESH) that weekend and an amazing cobbler all cooked in a wood fired oven/stove...totally off grid camping trips were great...

Did your council ever do a Klondike Derby? Troops have to build their own sleds containing their gear, pulled by the kids from station to station demonstrating all manner of winter survival techniques.

No, but I did get the wilderness survival merit badge and that was crazy...the finale was staying overnight in the dead of winter in your own shelter...
I was one of the scouts who also managed to start a fire with sticks....yup...done it :) Trick was a tiny bit of sand grains for extra friction...

I remember Wilderness Survival badge. I did mine in the summer though sleeping on some pine boughs and a shitty lean-to over top of me. I've made a bow-drill fire a couple times, but never managed to have the patience or skill to get there just working two sticks together.

I discovered steel wool and 9vt batteries pretty early on cause none of us were allowed to have lighters.
