So controversy brewing in town...
My kid took the PSAT today and apparently the proctor in the gym which had the largest group of students just blanketly said "Graphing calculators are not allowed"
This was true in like 1998...but not in 2021 the test lists TONS of approved for use graphing calculators...Proctor refused to even go online to check the list...
eesh...
My kid was not impacted...luckily she was in a classroom...

 

I remember back when the school teachers would say, you won’t always have a calculator with you.. boy were they wrong

 

The test now has a calculator section...
and there's a podcast I listen to where preeminent educators now think for the majority of students it's irrelevant to assess math performance without one. They would prefer a "excel/spreadsheet competency assessment" because that's far more relevant.
Basically our present math education process was designed to produce as many "human calculators" to compete with the russian space race...and we STILL abide by that model..
Which is obviously outdated...It's a brilliant assessment and echos of what we've been hearing in class for decades "WHY DO WE NEED TO KNOW THIS...."

Side note...my kid is interested in Physics in college so I told her "ha ha...you're that 1% that NEEDS to know it...so get cracking!"

 

Exactly. You think I do all the complicated math in my head at work? Fuck no. I pull out my phone and open Construction Master Pro app. Until about 10 years ago they just sold the actual Construction Master Pro calculator for about $100 bucks. I've still got my old one buried in the bottom of a job box. Then someone made it into an app that costs $25 bucks. Guess what business model has netted them the most profit? Yep. The app. lol

Well, VET dividend is like a dog whistle to him. So won’t take long to get the synopsis

 

This says in theory they can "afford" a 5-10% dividend next year (3 months from now) based on free cash flow and debt obligations..
Not saying the dividend IS back, but based on metrics, SHOULD return shortly...
Also their debt is their lowest ever right now...

 

If I was in VET I would have read it. I'm not. We all know where my dumb ass is. lol
