On a trip....pulling motorcycle trailer with 2 bikes, Vagabon XL rooftop tent, loaded down with camping gear. Trip up was ok...but squared pretty good. Thinking of buying some Superior Automotove helper springs for thr trip home. Looks like an easy bolt in install....but need to make sure. In north east Georgia and cant find any Hellwigs or other brands that are in stock up here....

Is the install simple bolt on? Read some posts that the spring pack "clamp" had to be removed, and some said no.

Is this something I can do before heading home with a jack and hand tools or should I wait till I get home and just order the larger hellwig helper.

Don't tow and have all this stuff all the time
..maybe twice a year, which is why I'm looking at the helpers.

Read up about RAS suspension. You should really get a heavier load leaf pack.

When i get back I'll do more intensive research to determine what I'm going to do about long term solutions.

This is a right now.$70.00 bandaid if its possible.

Do you believe your stock setup won't get you home safely?

About 2 wks ago, I installed the RAS system on the rear leafs on my 22 Taco. It took about 2 hrs total. I haven't hauled anything heavy yet but from what I read in my research, they're great for hauling trailers and heavy loads. Good luck

I installed a set of Hellwig helper springs a few years back. Only need to temporarily remove the u bolts to install. The only complication I had is if the truck is on the ground and the spring pack is loaded, a set of c clamps would be helpful to bend the helper springs into place to install the retaining u bolts at either end.

Two motorcycles (dirt bikes?) on a trailer plus a couple other things? I have a hard time imagining your truck is breaking a sweat. Relax.

BTW, you might be buying the wrong camping gear. My latest collection weighs 10 lbs total.

What does “squared pretty good” mean?

Lol...trucks not sweating pulling, but the squat is noticeable 200lb roof top tent, 3 bins of gear, plus trailer and motorcycles. I'm on a fixed income so I cant get the latest and lightest gear.

Close to the end of our first leg of the trip I was hearing a chirping noise when first pulling from a stop....got me looking and saw that it could be the rear u joint straining. Got me a little worried. I think I'll be fine going home, definitely looking at the RAS over the Hellwig spring now.

You have a 3rd gen Tacoma, a rooftop tent, 2 motorcycles and 2 tons of camping gear. I think you are doing fine financially. Relax and enjoy your trip. Where ya at?

Put a little grease on your trailer hitch ball & the "chirp" will likely stop.

A WDH is a much better mid-trip bandaid than helper springs.

    My opinion.
