    Hello All,

I am having trouble deciding on new tires for my 2020 TRD Sport. I am a Park Ranger in Idaho and I find myself doing about 75%/25% highway/off road. Of that 25% about 20% is just dirt and fire roads but that last 5% can be some no bullshit rocky terrain. Also excellent snow performance is a must. I plan on sticking with the stock 265/65/R17 but to my understanding I can snag a tiny bit of extra height with 265/70/R17 which I'm not opposed to. I am really just looking for reliability and to not absolutely crush my fuel economy.

I am currently running the Cooper AT3 4s which have been spectacular other than the fact that they have 30,000 miles on them and they are worn enough that I don't want to take them into another Idaho winter. Hoping that Cooper will honor the 60,000 mile warranty in some way because I have always rotated tires and I don't drive aggressively whatsoever.

At this point I am leaning toward the following options but other suggestions are more than welcome.

    Firestone Destination A/T 2
Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT (If they will wear better than the AT3)
    Goodrich Trail-Terrain T/A
    Toyo Open Country A/T III
    Kumho Road Venture AT52

    Thanks in advance.

I would also look at the yokohama G017. I have a studded set for dedicated winter use. Only available in an E load but I can say the casing on my G003 has been insanely tough and reliable, that was part of the deciding factor to stick with yokohama at's for my winters. Don't need ice easily slicing a side wall.

Agreed, I briefly ran the G003’s a couple years ago and it was clear from that tire that Yokohama makes a fantastic product.

This was a smooth section of trail I did this summer. Easily 40km of sharp mountain rock and not a notable mark on them. Part of my wants to try a set of toyo trail rt's next but these MT's have been so good to me it'll be a hard sell to change.

Would you be able to provide insight on the AT4’s impact on your gas milage if any?

The Yokohama AT4 is E rated. Weights 51 lbs in 265/70-17. On my 4R, I went from 18.9 to 18.4 mpg when I switched from the stock Dunflops.

I'm currently running the Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT and have had them about a month. Great on the road - less road noise than my previous Goodyear Ultraterrain and it looks like I've had a slight uptick in MPG. For 95% of your needs, I would say they are great. Hard for me to speak to how fast they will wear, but they come with a 65k mile warranty from Cooper. They do only come in a SL load range, but if you never had trouble Cooper AT3 4s, I would guess these should be similar. I'm running 265/75R16. I also found a pretty good deal - Sam's Club lists them at $178.88/tire and DT agreed to beat them and match their install - mounted, balanced, installed, and out the door for $846.

Yes but not every where has them in stock in every size. The GO15 is still not a bad option!

Yep, I’m running 33”s (LT285/75/16) and I’m averaging about 20mpg on the highway. I have the hypertech speedometer calibrator so my speedometer and MPGs are still fairly accurate despite the different tire size.

Thank you for the insight, I really love the AT3 4s but I am not stoked at all on how fast they have worn down. But for 846 out the door it might be worth trying the updated version.

That is awesome, in the stock size they aren’t that much heavier than my Coopers so maybe I will give them a shot.

Yeah the weight is a big reason I got them, because I drive so much I needed something that wouldn’t kill my MPGs. They are very smooth on the road and so far, very capable off road as well.
