Hey guys I'm hooking up some new headlights that have an LED strip at the bottom and there's a red wire and black wire coming out of the casing for them. I need to splice into the headlight wiring for them to have power once I turn the headlights on. Three wires coming out of the headlight socket (red, red with white stripe, and red with green strip) and only two (red and black) for the led's coming out of the new casing

do you want the strips on with the headlight, or with the parking lights? If you do it w/ the headlight, you'll have to decide low or high beam, parking lights are on in all positions.

Update: I spliced into the running lights and the fuse blew and kept blowing all the way up to 30 amps. So I think I'm gonna have to mount a relay any other suggestions?

If you are blowing 30amp fuses, you have it miswired. You may wish to review the schematic and test on the battery directly

Did you disconnect battery before you started?

Led lights won't pull enough to blow 5 amp, much less 30amp fuses. You have something wired wrong.

ditto. I doubt that string of led's pulls 1 amp combined for both lights. Test the LED's directly to the battery as suggested, make sure they still work. Then use a voltmeter to test the parking light wiring to make sure you have the polarity correct. They don't like being hooked up reverse-polarity.

Led's won't blow fuses if hooked up backward. They just won't light up.

That depends on a few things - primarily are they just series LED's with resistors to do voltage matching, or is there a DC-DC driver in there managing current. Reverse polarity on a DC driver is a bad thing.

Still, yes if they were simply tapped into the 2 parking light leads, most likely there's no reason that any fuses should ever blow, barring a dead short.

I'd be willing to bet that they are resistors in series with the LED's and not drivers. Drivers aren't normally used on something as simple as halos.

Yeah not sure why those are blowing fuses. Unless there's a defect in that led board. I have the same slider headlights. And never had an issue. Spliced into the parking lights as well. Don't think I wired them in backwards at all so can't say if thats blow the fuse or not. Like someone else suggested, test the wires straight to the battery.

Also a side note, I hope you resealed those lights... They are prone to leaking. When I had my first set, it got about an inch of water in one headlight. Ha. Also, having the lights on with that water in it, did not affect the leds one bit.. But it did make the halogen bulb explode, heh. I've since bought another set with retros in em. And have a third set ready for a second retro, due to the reflectors popping loose. Sigh. Anyways...

Your new headlights were they just plug and play ? plugged in to the head light harness they work correct .

The headlights being switched ground if connected to the parking lights will open the parking light fuse because it will allow a short.

The LED light bar is no longer connected to the head lights??

Wired to the parking lights should not be causing fuses to open if wired correct.

Can you post a picture of any schematics with your new lights .

The LED light bar should be separate from the head lights .

Due to our switched Ground Head lights.
