My newest tire review of another relatively unknown (and new) offering is underway. The Hercules Terra Trac T/G Max is my newest muse. Installed on a 2008 F250 work rig, I thought the review would better be written on the Ford Truck Enthusiast forums. However, since the tires are available in many popular sizes that Taco owners use, I'll keep a link to the review here and keep you all updated.

Thank you. Thorough and well written as expected

How would you compare the noise level of these new to a new Duratrac?

I have owned open Jeeps for 25 years with every kind of MT you can imagine. I'm never sure how my definition of noisy compares to other's who primarily run street tires. It sounds like you have lots of experience with MT's as well, so at least I know our internal noise meters are similar.

The stock tires on my Tacoma are freakishly quiet, which is odd for me on a truck.... but I'm getting accustomed to it. My last set of Goodyear MTRs would literally hurt your ears above 40mps. That's what I'm trying to avoid on this truck.

Definitely not that. It's been a little while since I've run Duratracs so I can't come up with a fresh, direct comparison, but I'd say they are on par with Duratracs. Maybe a little louder.

I have been shopping for an AT and had it narrowed down to the Terra Trac 2 (load C) or the Trail Grappler (load D).

The more I wait, the more I am leaning toward a Hybrid. Load selection is almost nil in my size, so I have relegated to living with a Load E tire if I get a hybrid. Not the end of the world as I do haul a 17ft. dual axle trailer occasionally.

I have narrowed my choices in the hybrid style to the T/G Maxx and the Cooper ST Maxx. The ST Maxx made the short list for good road manners, relatively quiet ride, and aggressive tread. The T/G made the list because of price, the aggressive tread blocks, and the absence of any other information that I can find LOL. I have about a month before I need to buy tires, so any information you can feed out on the T/G test would be appreciated. (Even minor observations day to day). For the look... and the performance info that I have read about so far, I'm not convinced that the ST Maxx set is worth $200 bucks more.

Price is definitely a huge determining factor. Due to my extremely tight budget this year, the Coopers were off the table from the start. No further info as of yet, but the truck is going to get some use this week so I'll poll my drivers and see what they say.

Agreed. But a "Meh" side wall may be worth the two hundred noodles. At least it has some pattern.

Looks are one thing, function is another. The modest upper sidewall design definitely helped in the sand dunes, probably even more so had I aired down further.

It's going to be a while. Like I said, I don't drive this work truck and I forgot my current maintenance employees aren't gear heads and wouldn't know the difference between an HT and an MT.
