Wow, a lot to wade through here. My 2017 TRD OR DCSB is treating me well. I opted for the the manual and love it. I came from a 2011 WRX that was running a tune and the Taco satisfies me. Its not a race car, but let the revs climb and the truck will move. Plenty of merging/passing power. It lugs fine enough up hills too.

No vibrations to speak or. I did the lower control arm fix myself, but I never really heard them. I do hear the rear end now and again. It doesn't bother me too much. My Ranger did the same thing and it went over 200,000 miles like that. Come to think of it, there was a lot of backlash in my Ranger, but it lasted me just fine. I am sure some kid has blown it up now. Toyota has replaced some rear-ends and the noise comes back. Perhaps it really is a characteristic of the truck. I love my truck. YMMV.

There's no way you actually love your truck. It's plagued with problems but you lack the situation awareness to know better

I am in no way putting down 3rd Gens with this question, but how do you know what percentage of the 200,000 are having issues?

What type of answer are you looking for? I generalized, I don't have a specific % but if less than half the people are having issues they are still in the minority. I would venture to say that the 3rd Gen experiences no more or less issues than any other manufacturer. As far as the Tacomaworld reference from what I have seen in posts and on polls theirs maybe 100 or so active 3rd Gen posters, more if you count the few people that ask a question and never come back, but even 1% is 2000 people, their is definitely not 2000 people here complaining.

I would be curious to know the real number as well, I just dont think its any more or any less than any other manufacturer. From what I have seen, most of the 3rd gen issues are fixable and those that are not are exceptional.

I've been lurking here in 3rd gen, from the time I bought my 2015 sport I wondered if I should have waited on 2016. I don't believe word for word all the bad nor all the good on the 3rd gen, sometimes you can talk your self into a perception that becomes reality. However I'm sufficiently worried that I will hold on another year for 2018. Negative feelings and bad perception of truck is good for debate and information on this forum. I enjoy Smittys comments actually !

I've got the sport just as you but it's not loaded. I opted for the 6 speed manual for a little more fun and besides the rear diff howl I have zero issues. Love my Taco!

Polls. Hah. To rebut your comment concerning good data coming from polls I submit-

In all seriousness, forum polls are pretty bad for a few reasons. First, a forum dedicated to a single thing or group is going to be bias because everyone there is going to be an enthusiast. Second, people don't generally go out of their way to comment on something without be very emotionally vested in that something. So if they have a negative experience, people are more likely to go out of their way to search out a place to air that grievance.

For instance, if you have an issue with your Kindle device, you go on the Amazon Kindle forum and make a topic talking about the power cord. Then within hours you have a few other people pipe up that the power cord on theirs is also crazy bad. And then google starts to promote that thread when you search for "Kindle Reviews" OR "Kindle Problems" based on analytics and trending. Then someone else will have confirmation bias that the kindle is a piece of crap because the one they just purchased seems slow. So if you start a poll in the Kindle forum, the results are going to be heavily skewed, and probably for the most part negative.

People who purchase a Kindle, or in our case a Tacoma, take it home, and it just works for their every day average stuff, doesn't really have an issue, doesn't really care, etc. They're not going to come on and say, "Works like I thought it would" or even vote on the TW poll.

That is one philosophy but another is that this is an enthusiast forum so negative comments coming from enthusiasts carry that much more weight.

While I don't completely disagree, the weight of a few people on TW don't outweigh the rest of the Tacoma owners. TW 3rd Gen is a small community. Like Iv'e said in other posts, 100 people complaining here vs 200,000 tacomas. It's obvious that Toyota makes their decisions based on the silent majority.
