It’s subjective of course, but I like the looks of smaller grille as opposed to the humongous tundra grille. It’s hard to believe that Toyota went with such a significant difference in the grille styling but I’m glad they did. If this is in fact the new Tacoma, it looks great.

Someone needs to dig up some interior shots. Wondering if it's getting any QoL upgrades. The new Colorado really outshines the 3rd gen currently in that aspect. Trying to steer my friend into team Toyota and that was his biggest gripe.

    It’s a pretty good attempt.

if Nissan didn’t have such a bad reputation as a company, these would sell like crazy.

I will say one thing, though, the truck is a perfect copy of the current generation V6, they’re going to be a little bit screwed when the refresh comes out.

Or maybe not, maybe some people want a naturally aspirated old-school truck with minimal options, like me.

    I largely agree...

The Frontier incorporates (blatantly Rips-off) features from the Tacoma (mostly) but also shamelessly takes some cues from the Ranger.
It is trying desperately hard to appeal... (unsuccessfully).

I believe they are listening to Tacoma owners in the sense that the seating position is more upright as desired by the domestic Full size truck owners who have likely spent little time in a sports car - seem to want it. - As a result the Frontier looks top-heavy and aesthetically dorky in my opinion.

As a cobbled-up design rip-off it does not work. I don't see many of them around at all... When I do, I can't help but stare. It just looks wrong.

    * IF you want high clearance, you need a high floor - in order to keep it looking well, not only 'not dorky', but good looking... you need the right dimensional proportions. - And you end-up with a legs-forward seating position... (which is quite upright relative to most 'fast cars')

(My 2 bits on the topic...)

I would say that it gives people who want a very specific thing, a basic truck with no bullshit, exactly what they want. There are only so many ways you can design a box with a bed attached to it.

I even seriously considered one when Toyota had no vehicles on the lot or for sale, but I’ve been down the Nissan abysmal quality rabbit hole before and I’m not going to do it again.

BTW, why would you want sports car sitting in a pickup?

I looked at them, didn’t seem too too bad. Buddy of mine is a senior tech, said stay away, Nissans are only good up to 100K. Toyotas seem to go to 200K before they start nickel and diming ya.

I didn't know that about a Frontier. I nearly bought one...but the dealership had $3995 of (invisible and non-refundable) "upgrades" (such as paint protection) on the Pro-4x i was interested in, wanted me to answer 20 questions, and wouldn't "let me" test drive it unless I did. Sounds like they helped me dodge a bullet.

Funny you should mention all that.

A few years ago we were replacing my wife’s Grand Cherokee and we went to a dealership north of Sacramento.

All of their trucks had a $2000 tint/protection package.

When I asked them what that meant, they said they tinted the rear windows of the SUVs, which already come tinted from the factory. I told them that all of them should already come tinted, and they said no they don’t, we tint them for you.

That’s what the extra $2000 is for.

These guys were literally lying that they applied the factory tint.

There was also some “paint protection package” that they said was “like ceramic,” but obviously was not a ceramic coating.

and no greater failure in an attempt-to-copy; haha!

I mean, all they had to do was trace the lines, how did they take a such a great looking truck and make it so f-in ugly with so few changes...

Where do you go to get smoke blown up your ass by some moron who doesn't know his own ass from a hole in wall while your in the process of dropping tens of thousands of dollars? Nissan gets 5 stars

    To me, a sign humanity is progressing will be the elimination of ridiculous professions like the car sales person; by the time I'm ready to buy, I know way more about the vehicle I'm buying than the clown they hired to "sell" it to me;

Car dealerships have proven that they have no reason to exist beyond providing factory warranty service. You should be able to buy directly from the manufacturer. Tesla already does it. During Covid all we saw was these glorified middlemen gouging the shit out of us to the point that now even the manufacturers are thinking about price gouging to get a slice of that sweet sweet pie.

If it wasnt DI-only (I'll go electric before I buy DI) there might be one sitting in my driveway. I actually really liked the Pro4X I looked at. I know Nissan isn't the same as it used to be, but I've never had any problems with any of my Nissans, and that includes two early CVT models (Sentra and Altima).

From some angles there is a bit of a Hardbody resemblance. The nose of the truck how it slopes down from the hood with the headlight lights and grille, it's hatd to explain. The fender buldges lend a little styling cues to the Hardbody you really got to look for it. There's a little bit of Extera/original Patherfinder going on as well something I thought Nissan should have done long ago. Lots of 3rd gen Tacoma, and 5th gen 4R in there, but those trucks are also so common that's what the Frontier will be associalted with, and that isn't wrong. The silhouette of the Frontier is much bulkier than the 3rd gen Tacoma Pro4X is where that shows the most, when I see that truck I think GoBots. Look at the S/SV and Pro4X trims from different angles as they look a little different to get a good gauge on the Frontier styling.

This is spot on. It’s easy to say the Frontier is a Tacoma knock but they tried to pay tribute to the hardbody. I think they did that but it’s subtle. I think it’s a great looking truck and if the price was right I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one. They just waited too long to debut the truck and it’ll get lost in the shuffle.

I agree...even the DIE HARD NA - not going turbo manufacturers -- are going turbo. There is no doubt the gas mileage is better, the power is better (throughout all of the band), towing is better...reliability is really the only question. But at the end of the day, some of the longest-lasting truck engines out there (turbo diesels) happen to have turbos. Plus, this isn't 1990 anymore...and these aren't SAAB's...from most of what I have seen, swapping most of these modern day turbos is pretty much as involved as replacing an exhaust manifold really.

Turbos do burn oil, and is that something that they expect the end-user to know about and add if necessary?

And despite the best engineering, they still do not like garbage gasoline, which a lot of people put in their cars and trucks if they are low on cash.

I like your comment about it not being the 1990s anymore regarding turbos, they are becoming standard equipment because the reliability and other value is realized. Someone driving a turbocharged vehicle normally / conservatively gets value from the turbo, you don’t have to be seeking performance and speed to get that value.

One thing about the new Nissan Frontier being discussed is the motor, it's a proven normally-aspirated V6. All the other mid-size trucks are turbocharged, so Nissan has an advantage with "anti-turbo folks".

Overall Nissan has suffered from quality issues, but their Titan and Frontier trucks have proven reliable over the years. Their CVT's use to suck-ass, may still do (I don't like anybody's CVT). But Nissan has always built solid motors, and they built solid body structures. They use to chinch pretty bad on interior materials, and since people interact and see those every day, it can lower quality perspectives in regards to the vehicle.

About a decade worth of shitty CVT's from partly-Nissan-owned transmission-builder Jatco has set Nissan back at least a decade. Shame really, because Jatco has built some fine typical multi-speed automatics.

Honda went their own way on automatic transmissions, and paid dearly on occasion with failing trannys.
