My truck shows weeping, and dealer had kept it with no ideas on fix or ETA. I was actually in the middle of trading in my truck when I took it in for the oil change and the recall brought up.

Now the dealer won't touch my truck until the recall has been performed. Very frustrating!

All dealers around here are giving me the same answer. No idea on ETA for the fix.

I can't believe a Toyota dealer won't take a Toyota vehicle on trade because it has a pending recall.....that sounds crazy

State law? I mean it makes sense . They're performing the work on your time before they take possession. Makes you wonder why they can't do it on their time but oh well what's another couple weeks lol hopefully you get a rental of some kind in the meanwhile

    Workin' on it....
That sucks. When my wife and I were looking for a little gas sipper (Honda Civic) for her, we found one that had an open recall on it and the dealer legally couldn't sell it until the fix had been performed with parts of unknown ETA.

That really sucks man, I'd be frustrated too knowing as time goes by depreciation continues not to mention the missed opportunities if a good deal came along.

    Bummer.

Hmm sounds like a decision of their own. They are prohibited by federal law to sell a new car with a recall. But there is nothing about used cars or trade in.... see below

"Federal law prohibits dealers from selling a new car with an unfixed recall, and rental car companies from renting an unfixed car. But dealers can sell still sell cars with dangerous problems, from faulty Takata airbag inflators to bad GM ignition switches.

They just have to be considered used.

No federal law bans dealers from selling used cars with unfixed recalls. It's called "the used-car loophole" and the fight to change it turns up plenty of debate. Safety advocates claim the loophole puts consumers at risk, while a major dealer group says a ban on such sales would reduce values for owners who are trying to trade their cars in"

Edit: Cant find anything California specific and looks they want to close the loophole but nothing official that I can see

They wouldn't take it in trade because it would be sitting on their lot until they could get parts to fix it, ie, losing money.

While there may not be a law preventing them from selling a vehicle with an open recall, especially one that could be considered a safety recall, it would be highly unethical.

It appears that some of the Takata airbags were driver side and the vehicles were still allowed to be driven. That surprises me.

Wait, I somehow implied that dealers may be ethical o_O

Toyota doesn't take trades. They sell vehicles to dealers. Dealers take trades.

By Toyota, I meant the dealer. You know exactly what I was talking about. Don't be that guy.

It would have to be an exceedingly chilly day in Hades before I let an auto dealer "keep" my truck for some unspecified/indefinite period. I have a spare key and bolt cutters, and if I had to would come back and get it...
