Easier said than done. Selling a 30k+ vehicle is a pain in the ass for someone not experienced with it and even then it can take months of weeding out tire kickers, dealing with people who can't get money together etc

This sounds correct. The thread title is misleading, you can sell your vehicle but just not to this specific dealer. It may not be an easy sell but there is nothing saying you cant sell a vehicle with a recall

Gasket or FIPG plus some studs and a torque wrench constitutes a recall these days. Seriously, Toyota, its not that hard to put an ETA on bolts (but preferably, buy some USA sourced steel this time).

Understood. Just pointing out he doesn't have to be the victim. There's always options. It's how bad you want to do the deal that determines how hard you want to work at it.

I tried several dealers. All said , no go until the recall is done.

I know what you mean, its the discretion of the dealer. It would be the same with private party, you probably wont find anyone that wants to buy it with a pending recall, that is obvious, I am just saying there is no rule or law. What about a non Toyota dealer? They might not even know about the recall

Dealer will sell trucks just won't buy yours. Interesting.

I'm not playing the victim man. I'm just frustrated with how Toyota is handling this recall.

I was right about to sell my truck before this whole fiasco started - now everything is on hold because Toyota (dealer) doesn't know what and how to fix this recall.

Now of course, this is a first world problem - and I get that. But w'ere on a Tacoma forum and i'm just sharing my experiences here.

Non-toyota dealer is a no go. All dealers share a similar database where recalls if/any are pending or listed.

Dealer sale gets you bent over backwards either way, you could easily do a private owned small used car dealer, maybe they wont know there is an ETA issue and will buy it even knowing it has a recall. There are ways, you just need to be more shady than they are

I crossed California off my possible places to live list a long time ago, sounds like Canada is a "no-go" too...

And before anyone else asks. I will NEVER sell private party knowing that there is an unfinished recall. I'm not going to hand off my headache to someone else.

I had no issues handing off the truck to the dealer, because I know they HAVE to get the recall done before selling the vehicle.

My dealer just called. Apparently, I, in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM can retrieve my truck until the recall is done. The SA allowed me to take it out, w/o knowing this info prior.

The latest update according to him and Toyota is there is no ETA fix if *any* leak is found, even weeping. They are allowing customers to have 30/60 day car rentals, while they develop the procedure.

That's what my SA just told me.

Ah. It's almost comical at this point. I did get a RAV4 for a loaner this time. The new car will have to wait, and i'll just chill here with the loaner til they get things fixed.

smitty, you were fighting the good fight. There is lots of improvement needed by Toyota, and it will take a few very vocal ones to get everyone heard.

Wait they let you take it, and then called to say you couldn't take it??? I would have pretty much told him to go f$ck himself.

And if I'm misunderstanding, and they have your truck hostage... Grab your spare key and go rescue that shit!!! NOW!!!
