E46 M is what I'd own as second car if I had the garage space. Love those cars. Had an Imola Red, 2005 ZHP coupe with 6MT and never should have sold it. Even today those cars are gorgeous. They simply don't age.

The E60 M5 is a money pit. Horrible platform with stupidly expensive repairs. You seriously lucked out if you got rid of yours before the problems started.

You and me both! The crux of the problem, is that Toyota doesn't have an outlined procedure or ETA for fix (the recall doc floating around regarding gaskets is very misleading) The shop foreman - who should have every available latest info relayed this info to the sales guys.

To a car dealer, having a car sit on your lot for *any* amount of time is a huge sin, so they rather not take on that liability. Like I said. I got the, "come back when your recall is done, line"

Unfortunately, this is not just one dealer. It's several. I can try a few more, but it's hard to sell a truck that I don't have physical possession of. I mean, I can show them pics and what not. :)

no whats the name of dealer who made you the $30K offer so everyone knows not to go there, it would help TW members to stay clear of them going back on their word not going thru with a deal that's already signed for.

They are not going back on their word. It is perfectly reasonable to expect the vehicle being traded in to be up to date on all recalls, especially ones as serious as this one. If you made a deal to buy an accident-free truck and then found out the truck has a rebuilt title, would you stick to the terms of your original deal? Doubt it...

he wasn't trading in the truck he was made a buy offer from a Toyota dealer for $30k, also if they purchased the truck from him they will make more money on it full filling the warranty work that needs to be done on it because that will be paid to the Dealer from Toyota corp. I had a catalytic converter recall on my truck and the 3 Toyota dealers in my area were fighting to get me to take it in to them so they could collect the warranty work monies, all Dealers know that game, they make money on warranty work not loose it.

He's trading it in to a BMW dealer, not Toyota.

Actually, my plan was to sell the truck to the dealer (most hassle free way) and buy the car I found private party.

I already had the truck inspected and everything was good to go, except for you know what popped up.

Then it's no longer "let's make something happen" but rather, "call us when you get it taken care of"

Nothing was signed, and I understand the dealer's position. Again, the real part of the apprehension from the dealer is that the service department has NO ETA on the fix.

this is very confusing cause at 1st you said you got Royally screwed by Toyota/Dealer for not buying your truck and F'd you out of a Beemer purchase, and now you say you understand the Dealers position?? then why start this thread if its all good in the Hood?

Maybe your'e confusing me with some other thread.

    My original post:

My truck shows weeping, and dealer had kept it with no ideas on fix or ETA. I was actually in the middle of trading in my truck when I took it in for the oil change and the recall brought up.

Now the dealer won't touch my truck until the recall has been performed. Very frustrating!

My post has more to do with the side affect of this recall, and the frustration it causes for some people. Maybe you're reading into it more than what I wrote?

Sadly, Toyota stopped stuffing the 2GR-FE 3.5 in the RAV4 in 2012 IIRC. I had one, it would absolutely blow the doors off my truck (I know, I know, that ain't saying much).

And yes. in my case that's what happened to me. I guess you could argue that I could have sold the truck private party. But it's very hard to sell a truck you don't have possession of.

Think of this as a 'heads up' for anyone thinking of trading in/selling their truck to a dealer while this recall is going on.

if you tell us the name of the Dealer that refused to honor your verbal agreement it would help the TW members to avoid doing business with them, cause in the end a mans only good as his word
