I say we let the 1st Gen guys vote on it.
They didn’t get an option for either, they should be non-biased.
Then post up the result in the 3rd Gen forum and really get this fight started.

Seriously I’m not going to post on this one any more.
I’m pushing my limit for a ban. I can feel it.

Few things wrong here, PRO has a hood scoop as well and it was not a 2.5'' lift, merely leveled front. Technically you are missing the TRD Baja which was from 2012-2014 and would be an O/R with the beadlocks, level front, etc.

So I have an 09 Sport...... I obviously don't have the e-locker but it would be nice to have. Do you guys have any opinions/advice on adding one?? Preferably not ARB as I don't do any rock crawling

Why do you want a locker if you aren't doing any rock crawling?

For a selectable locker there are 3 options I know of, the ARB air locker($$$), the Harrop E-locker($$$$), or replacing your rear 8.4 axle with a factory e-locker equipped 8.0 axle. You can buy a prewired switch from a company I can't currently remember and an axle will either come from Toyota ($$$$$), a junkyard ($$$) or some crazy person here.

Was the Baja a TRD package? I thought it was the T/X Baja?

T/X Baja isn't (usually) a TRD it's just an appearance package installed at the dealer, similar to S.E.T.'s XSPX packages.

TRD's are TRD from the factory.

There wasn't an official "Baja TRD" but the 2WD with locker are often referred to (even in some Toyota dealer material) as Baja package TRD, generally though they had no other markings or designation, many didn't even have the TRD bed decals.

A locker is a locker doesn't matter what you're doing with it.

ARB is generally considered the best if you don't have an OEM locker already, even if you do have an OEM E-Locker the arb is arguably better as it doesn't have a vulnerable actuator protruding from the housing nor any electronics to go bad from moisture.

Why is a locker stigmatic with rock crawling?

I have a locker and use it all the time and there's no rocks in Florida only sand. A locker doesn't make your truck suddenly a rock crawling buggy, it just means that if one wheel doesn't have traction and one wheel does both will still spin unlike an open differential where the wheel without traction will recive 100% of the power.

Locker is great for getting out of sand and mud.

And when you mod it to use it in 2WD high it's great for drifting, sliding, and true two burnouts.

    :burnrubber::mudding:

“It comes standard with the TRD Off-Road package, which includes hill-start assist, downhill assist, traction control, and an electronic rear-locking diff. That package is available on other trucks, but there are plenty of other features that separate the Baja Series from the rest of the Tacoma flock. The Baja is shod with BFGoodrich T/A KO tires on 16-inch gunmetal gray beadlock-style wheels. In front, the suspension uses 60mm Bilstein race shocks and TRD coil springs; 50mm remote-reservoir race Bilsteins grace the rear. Ride height is up by nearly 2 inches, and wheel travel is up by 1 inch in front and 1.5 in the rear. On the performance side, Toyota added a TRD cat-back exhaust and, as you can see here, flat-black graphics seen only on the Baja Series.”

Huh. That's new, the 1st and 2nd gens weren't like that, at least not when I worked for Toyota.
