They're a pain in the ass being bigger, tough to get the wiring stuffed back into the small old work boxes.

 

Speaking of that...

We got our countertop and backsplash in yesterday. Well, the countertop was already in, the guy came and did it Saturday, but yesterday he came in and put the backsplash in. There is just one pc that he didn't put in because he didn't like the way it was sitting, so he took it back to rec-cut and will be back today or tomorrow to put in.

Now I need longer screws to hold the switches and outlets to the box, since the backsplash is thicker and the short screws won't reach. I think the guy did a great job and looks awesome, and I'm not one to normally have an "eye" for this sort of thing.

 

Bodes well for the quality of the job that your contractor wasn't willling to leave it as "good enough".

Same thing with gfi's generally, I try to keep the leads as short ad possible in these instances
Edit: those old school metal boxes are the freaking worst too

You can buy an electricians screw kit with 6/32s of all sorts of lengths for cheap, always had one in the van for when I needed to swap a short screw out

 

I'm sure my pops has a bunch of them already, being an electrician and doing side jobs all the time.

 

More than likely, I haven't done electrical in a couple months and I'm still finding some lmao

 

Yup, had that same situation with my kitchen when I did backsplash versus the hideous paneling we had before.

 

The guy came in to put the pc this afternoon. Backsplash is complete.

Looks awesome.

Now gotta plan to have the hardwood floors redone and stained, and then the biggest parts of this remodel will be done.

At 4:30 I was home, working on my stupid under the sink drain still, with my pops.

Gonna re-do it using the kind of pipes that glue together instead of the crap that's there now, that screws together and doesn't really seal right.

I had to explain to my wife just now why I was walking around looking at door knobs.


When I worked at a Honda dealer in the 80's I had a customer pick up his car and come back inside to complain we'd moved his wheel center caps. He'd aligned them. I had to (very gently) explain that wheels travel different distances around corners and so the center caps won't stay aligned.
