The starter in my old work truck used to stick and we limped it for weeks by hitting it with some 1/2" EMT, there wasn't enough space for leverage with a hammer so we basically just shocked it until it came unstuck lmao

 

Way back in my English sports car days I kept a rubber mallet in my trunk (excuse me, "boot") for just that reason.

Lexus is at the dealership local to me. Threw a CEL and TRAC OFF light on XMAS morning while driving to work. Nice present to myself!

When my starter went, I used a short 2x4 placed against the starter though the driver side wheel well and tapped the end of the 2x4 with the hammer. Worked for me. Bad contacts so the tapping was enough to get good contact for the start. Replaced it same day. Not sure if the starter is in the same location on 3rd gens.

 

Something to keep in mind. I am 2nd gen so would be the same setup for me. Didn’t get around to anything today doing some last minute family stuff. Maybe tomorrow.

Something is fishy af because the battery is dead already after a charge this am. Wondering if its a combination of things.

 

Also, Santa was good to me. Dash cam (recommended by @crashngiggles ), retro toyota grille piece. And impact driver and impact socket set.

 

Or try something like a baseball bat if you can see the starter clearly. Use the head to tap the starter a few times..don't go for a home run, maybe a bunt single

You must be psychic. I’m looking at a no start but it was from last week. Of course I get in it, start it up and drive it in the shop.

 

I will be patiently waiting until the spring for your help, thank you. And, Yea, the sockets are from Tekton. Saying I am psyched about these (along with the impact and other goods) would be a massive understatement.

 

Reminds me of my days as a dealer tech. I can't say I miss it. LOL!
