Even crazier that it already had that much back then.

Now it's even "worse".

I had that happen. Alternator in the Boxster crapped out, limped it to two miles from home and it died...with the top down and a thunderstorm approaching. Called my neighbor to bring me a tarp and Karen and I held it over the car waiting for the flatbed at a busy intersection in pouring rain. Lots of pointing and laughing.

I wonder what the techs that do brakes and tires constantly are going to do. Find a new profession?

I think in 3 to 5 years, cars are going to get complicated.

Going to say that back door is a replacement, looks too bent to reskin.
That rocker panel looks like it's torn down below. That's probably a replacement too. Replacement or repair, you want it shot full of fluid film or waxoyl ASAP.
A 13-year-old vehicle would probably be totalled before getting 2 doors & a rocker panel replaced (& bent B pillar? pulled). The Toyota Tax will probably save it for you.
Good luck with it all. Remember 2 things. Anything the insurance company offers - is a NEGOTIABLE OFFER. Your insurance company works for you & really it's their job to deal with all the annoying crap of sorting this out.

 

A couple things going on in the used car market.
Dealers bought high when they got their current used car inventory, they're desperate to sell high even though that ship has sailed.
There is a new thing going on. New vehicles with a couple hundred to couple thousand miles are being sold as used to get around the "sticker price". People are no longer willing to pay above sticker & manufacturers are starting to punish dealers for absurd mark-ups by reducing inventory allocations. So dealers get around that by selling at sticker, but adding on $5k of add-ons ($1,500 for vin etching window glass...), or they "sell" cars to employees for a few thousand miles, then "buy" them back & sell the car as used at any price they feel like.
