So it looks like we have some critters living quite close to our house (under back yard deck). We have bird feeders and the birds are always dropping seed into the grass below. The rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks etc. love it. There's always a variety of critters eating the seed out of the grass below the feeder. BUT, now we've noticed a bunch of mice also. They are bound to make it inside the house at some point. Want to get ahead of that but don't want to accidentally take out any of the other critters. How to go about killing the mice without harming the larger wildlife. Thought about that peppermint scent stuff, I think, that is supposed to keep them away but since they pretty much already live there not sure it would work. Traps are going to most likely injure another animal unless it's inside some king of box with small opening that only a mouse could get into. That's my best plan so far. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, you will most always get collateral damage with non-targeted species when using any trap.
I had the same issue with rodents and bird feed. Snap traps are very effective and had them placed under my deck. Stacked some firewood around it so they had to get inside the wood. A few chipmunks and cat birds bought the farm in the process.

Made a bucket trap last Fall. There's a ton of variations, but they're all basically the same. Put one in my garage and caught a bunch of field mice.
    Easy to build... and works.

And the real estate agents will not tell you(unless you're on the inside) how much you were outbid by.
Could be one dollar or 100k.
Lost out on another one in Woodbury by 1k.
