Hey Connecticut, our everything hurts

Same here re backing in. Especially in a tight place like a parking garage. Waiting in a line of cars after the Ministry show Monday, a Mercedes decided to back out. I saw him heading for my rear quarter and honked, my brother in law yelled out the window. Didn't slow him a bit as he smashed into my truck. Then he pulls back in the spot and gets out as I'm getting out of my truck.

Mercedes "Oh I didn't see you, where were you?"
Me "Sitting in the line and hadn't moved for a good 60 seconds so you didn't even look, did you?"
Mercedes "Can I take your phone number?"
Me "I'm calling the police"

Brother in law had to remind me not to throw down with this guy.

 

I hate when you have to pay for the consequences of someone else's (in)actions. Seems to be expected more & more every day - but it's one fight I'll fight. Aint right.
Sorry for your loss, as you'll lose value, time, original factory quality..... Maybe you can turn this into a new steel off-road bumper windfall.

The one place I nose in is at the grocery store as I usually want access to the ass-end of whatever I'm driving to load the groceries.
I've taken up the UPS habit from the Prius being so quiet when it backs up & I honk the horn 2x as I start backing out of the space.
I honk not for the people/things I see, rather I honk for whatever / whomever I don't see. Give them a fighting chance to avoid my mistake. So far it's worked, haven't backed into anyone or thing. But honking wouldn't have helped you, it's more for people walking behind, head-in-phone.

 

A big part of why I lost it. This would be the 4th time in about 3 years someone has hit my truck or her Rav4 not paying attention..to be fair, the last time had the biggest consequences re her injury on top of the vehicle damage. I even told the guy when I said I'm calling the cops that I'll just let them deal with this as I'm just beyond done with having others' inattentive nature visited upon my house. Fortunately my brother in law stopped me from really beating ass over it...doubt I would have but I was incensed.

Truck is pushing 15 yrs old so not really a thing re value per se on the bumper. Rear quarter might be a fix and paint..not worried as I know my brother in law will get it done right either way. I'd suspect his car had a backup camera..then again it might not be working. Either way he couldn't have even bothered to check the rear view or do a head check is what really gets me. Another reason I called the cops is in case this guy was intoxicated, I wasn't about to get close enough to him to find out

I'm in agreement re the grocery store, depends on whereabouts I park. Depends on which vehicle I have as well.

Off road bumper could be fun, but with my 5 lug it might start doing wheelies..haha

Went to bed early so of course I'm up early. Looks like temps are going to be in the 50's next week so that's a good thing.
I was searching on the site where I got my bolts and nuts for some black oxide washers (14mm) and can't find any. Looks like they only have zinc or yellow zinc in that size. I did clean up the old washers and paint them before reusing them.

I also realized that when I last torqued my upper control arm bolt, I over tightened it. I looked in the install instructions and realized that the torque for the nut is only 85 ft lbs. I torqued it to 100 last time I greased it.

Went to look at a tractor with loader today in Kent. Too much tractor for my project so I passed. Had a nice drive in the Taco though. Kudo's to old, small trucks as it got me down some closed roads & past a utility truck blocking 3/4 of the lane to the house I visited. Made it up the really steep driveway in 2WD (barely), should have gone into 4WD as the driveway was steep & covered in gravel.
1st Gen Taco for the win today. Plus a really nice 80 minute drive in the country.

my search for a modest earth moving device continues.

Going to take part in my Taekwondo school's demonstration this afternoon at the elementary school.

It's usually only Masters from the other Taekwondo schools, but my Master always asks me to help because I help teach classes at my school, and I'm a Black Belt.
