I don't know what it is, but folks from The Bronx love Candlewood Lake too. We seem to get one or two every year that come up to drown themselves - it's freaky how consistently it happens.

Something has changed with Candlewood - there is some new rule where you reserve parking online in advance & without that reservation you are going to be turned away. Something about too many people parking along the roads, so they're limiting lake access to limit cars. I only paid partial attention as I'm an ocean person.
I don't like lakes. Everyone knows lakes are full of snakes. Blech.

I had a 'discussion' with a friend the other day - I say all (healthy) cars have 4WB (4 wheel braking), he said no - some cars have only 2 wheel brakes.

Remind me..if I remember right you were born in Portugal, when/how did you get to the US? And IIRC did you have dual citizenship, or something else?

My 88 Celebrity braked fine with no rears..well, for me anyway. My sister rode in the car one day and freaked.

Yep, born there and moved here when I was 12. Going to turn 43 next month.

The dual citizenship thing... the US doesn't recognize dual citizenship, so to them I'm only American now. But Portugal does, and I still have my Portuguese passport, so in their eyes I'm both.

 

Gotcha. So you technically had US once you moved here, even if the US doesn't see it that way?

I read a story recently about a village in northern Portugal that has a festival in January for Epiphany/Three Kings Day that as part of it involves giving young kids cigarettes...know anything about this?

Naw. When I moved here I was an immigrant, and was a legal US resident because I had a green card. My parents did it the right way to come here instead of coming and staying illegally.

You're allowed to apply for US citizenship after I think 7 years, but I never really had the need to do it because I was here legally and kept renewing my green card. But my dad convinced me to do it recently because of his retirement stuff.

 

Green card was by virtue of being an underage child I am guessing..

I love learning about these stories.

The green card was thanks to my parents applying to come here the legal way.

 

One of my best friends' dad immigrated from Greece legally at age 20, but didn't have him or his brother yet.
