Morning...9/11 Remembrance. To my fellow squad mate SGT Bucklew, who was KIA in 2003. He was on his way home to attend his mother's funeral when the Taliban shot down the Chinook helicopter he was in. He left behind a wife and 9 kids...

Morning everyone. Went to my local 9/11 tribute this past weekend.

I keep forgetting how you folks in the Western part of the state were affected by 9/11. I know we had a couple crews from the Eastern part go to NY, but not like all you guys in border towns or close to it. The hundreds of trucks, ambulances, police, dog units, search and rescue...God Bless everyone from CT that was sent into that awful situation.

 

I still vividly remember the day it happened. I was in 8th grade. Even after 18 years, it’s incomprehensible.

Count your blessings, hug your loved ones. Never forget.

 

Why don't we get into the "Where were you" moments? I sure as hell remember where I was. I was sleeping on my Mom's couch, because almost exactly a month earlier, I was discharged from the Army. My mother woke me up saying a plane had flown into the WTC. I said "Stupid ass pilots", and rolled back over to go back to sleep. When the 2nd plane hit the tower, she woke me up again and in a panic said "A 2nd plane hit the other tower! What's this mean?!" I stared at the TV and said "We're under attack." Later that morning I was at the recruiters BEGGING him to do what he could to get me back in. No go. Stupid tattoo I had gotten in that short month kept me from re-enlisting.

 

I was of, supposed to go in Wednesday. The MNF game ran late cause somebody (McAffre?) for Denver broke his leg. Anyway, mom calls me and asked if I was flying, then if I was watching tv. I asked her "what am I looking at here?" She said a small plane hit the WTC. I said "that's a big hole".

 

I was at work and heard about it from a co-worker. After the second plane hit, we were all glued to the radio. No tv at work then. Then news that the pentagon was hit. I called my wife and said did you hear what happened? She said "no, what's going on". I said "turn on the tv". She said "what channel". I said "any channel". Office got closed by noon and on my way home, the electronic sign on 91 south read "NYC Closed".

 

Was expediting the tail of the breakfast rush in the restaurant. Saw the news flash & the hole & the clear beautiful sky in the background. Thought - that's no accident, the day is absolutely perfect. Got back to work knowing things were about to get crazy. Then the other plane hit. That changed everything. and things got damn crazy damned fast. There was no 'after work' that day as I was working in a large hotel 30 minutes outside of Grand Central Station. Food & housing suddenly became critical resources.

 

OH - Yes! "NYC Closed" I'd forgotten those, but yes said it on I-95 too. Was just incomprehensible.

 

I remember, I always remember.

 

I remember exactly where I was (at work), and who I was on the phone with. We shut the machines off and they had the TV on in the cafeteria. I then had to walk from one building to another and still vividly picture how blue and clear they sky was. It was eerily silent later in the day and that night when standing outside.

I don't know about you guys but I still get chocked up when I see the videos

 

I was at work in Clearwater, FL having my free daily meal as the MOD at a Holiday Inn and suites when it came on the news. Once the second tower got hit I knew we were under attack. It’s a day everyone knows exactly where they were and what they were doing. Never forget!
