1) How did the stump grinder work? Any pictures? I want to rent one as I have a ton of stumps on our property I need to grind down and a few are fairly large. Wondering how long it took to do them.

2) I did retro's on a truck, they went crazy and destroyed most my trucks electrical system. gotta be careful with those!!! Good luck getting it right.

 

Stump grinding went OK actually. I only had a few to do on my property, and they were small, so it was quick. My neighbor (since we split the rental), had a lot more than me, and way way bigger. Still went OK, just took a lot longer. But aside from that, easy peasy. We rented the "middle" size machine, but I'm sure if we rented the bigger one it would have been quicker for his. But all good either way. He had a couple that took about an hour each, that's how big they were. If you have some large ones, I'd say go for the bigger unit. It'll be much much quicker.

About the retros... I hope I got it right. So far I think I did, since I tested it last night, but we'll see. Gotta check on the lens clearing/cleaning thing though. Gonna go down there in a bit. The kids are finally up, so free game on making all sorts of noise.

 

Thanks for the tips, I have a couple that really are big, but 85% are pretty tiny, but it sounds like a bigger one will be worth it to save some hours. Glad to hear you got the retros maybe figured out!

 

You might be able to get away with the "medium" size machine then, if you have that many that should be a breeze. But it all depends on how much they want for the larger one as well. That made a difference when we rented ours. Went with the medium because they wanted a lot more for the bigger one.

 

Yeah they get pricey which is why I haven't done it yet. I have about a mile of trail I want to grind every stump off of, then there is a cleared area that was logged years ago I want to clean up all the stumps in. I was thinking it was going to take me close to a week. There has to be a trade off on time saved/cost per day though. I'll have to go talk to my local rental places and see whats what.

 

Man! I'd say the stuff looks like it did a damn good job! No signs of the "peeling". Should have taken a before pick so you peeps could see for reference.



But it looks like the spray stuff ran onto the bumper, but just on one side... DOH! Now I have to find a way to clean this off, without fucking up the paint.

 

Getting ready for some tractor maintenance tomorrow.
Getting the footbrake lever relocated so it works better for my reach.
A friend of mine is helping, he built his own biplane( a Stolp Starduster 2 and i think he is proficient in aircraft welding.
Knowing how he works my mod will be overbuilt and over engineered.
I'm not going flying with the tractor but i know his repair/mod won't break either.

Yeah, maybe on one of my Tuesday's off, I'll actually clean the truck from top to bottom.

 

I would bet those grinders sit a lot. probably can negotiate a deal for a week or longer, maybe free size upgrade.
