But seriously..never heard a bad thing about Samsung. I recently bought a 50" LG just because it's what I found the best deal on but it was LG or Samsung at that time and my 42" TV puked suddenly.

If you're not hanging it on a wall, buy a real stand. The ones they all come with now are cheap AF and I wouldn't trust em.

 

Nothing technical but I do hang tvs fairly often, biggest I've done to date was 75 and that took up the span of the wall it was going on (in a fairly large living room at that). Make sure you have the space for it before you pull the trigger. Gonna second the recommendation for a better stand as well, that thing is gonna weigh a ton

 

It was actually the Mrs' idea to buy a bigger TV and hang it on the wall. We have a raised ranch, which has that big wall upstairs in the living room, and definitely have the space for it.

My main concern is the tv itself, to make sure it's a good one as far as specs go, since I'm not too much in the know when it comes to that. Don't want to dish out a ton of money either, but also don't want to invest in something that big and be crap.

I've got a 70" LG but our smaller (42" ?) TV in our bedroom is a Samsung and have been happy with it.
At anything over 60" refresh rate is critical, particularly for sports or it may seem jumpy. If you look at it in the store be sure to watch some sort of sports on it and not just a movie. You need to see fast action for a good appraisal of picture quality .

Plan on getting more of the bed patched up today, get the tank down and start attacking the frame.

Gonna need a welder.... maybe someone would be interested in help teaching mig?

 

MiG is easy peasy to learn. You need a decent welder - infinite voltage adjustment and infinite wire speed adjustment; and a gas bottle. A quality helmet too. Auto darkening isn’t a must but it makes life easier. Good welding gloves too. Practice with 1/8” stock just to get the feel. I make small C shapes as I slowly walk the bead down the joint. A 135A 120V will do just about anything you need but if you have the extra cash and an outlet, a 180A 220V or so would be better if you want to hit heavier stock.

 

I have a cheap HF flux core welder that I was trying to practice on but heat is just a min max setting and having trouble containing spatter and laying a solid bead, or I was trying to patch the bed with it and kept realizing as I tried to get good penetration I’d just start melting through.
Will have to look into gas shielded just comes down to $$$

@MCJohnston - those cheap HF welders will just frustrate you. I have a 15 year old Lincoln Electric 135SP Plus. It’s handled everything I’ve put in front of it. If you look at replacing yours, shop around and call every welding supply shop. Prices vary significantly - at least they did when I bought mine. And the place included a free bottle of gas too.

Biggest problem with HF machine is HF wire. Grab a roll of Hobart Fabshield or Lincoln Innershield. Won't make it a pro quality welder but will improve it quite a bit. I'm a lousy welder but better wire made my beads look less like a cat's litter box.

Good thing I reread this before I hit post...accidentally said better "wife" instead of better "wire" LOL
