slow day over here folks. Story time!

 

The league is a 501c3 and as such is tax exempt, but also subject to some things a for profit isn't. If you've ever seen a tax form #990, it has watermarked OPEN FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION right on there. There had been a few large tournaments that went away through the years, and in fairness team number was down but the fee had gone up. A few people started asking where the money was going and went to a meeting to ask some of those questions..in addition a couple of the Board members weren't exactly honest with people in general. The top brass didn't like the questions and took the stance "I don't have to tell you anything". We specifically asked for the tax forms and were told no..then produced a blank copy that says it's open for public inspection, the president said "don't care". So yeah we weren't too happy..one guy in particular worked near the Boston IRS office and strolled in there one day about it. So the league was audited, and a few of the individual people's taxes as well..since the bylaws stated they are paid but they weren't listing that on the forms. One of the executive Board members also did the printing for the league, which I'm sure costs money but the amount listed was astronomical.

Several of them got out after and fortunately some of us got elected to the Board. We do things right at all times especially money matters. A couple of years prior, the summer session run on the South Shore here was taken over by myself and my partner..and we asked the former owner (who was also on the large league board) for the EIN/Tax ID and "oh you don't need that, the players run it so it's not required"..yeah. First thing we did was get one. I'm not risking the IRS in my life for millions of dollars, never mind a few hundred. They will ruin your life, so I hear.

Shady MFer's. When my son first started dating, he had a girlfriend who drove a couple year old BMW. 17 years old with a beamer. WTF. Then I find out from my son that she doesn't have to pay for gas. It's a "company" car and she uses the company credit card for gas. Her father ran his own company. I told him that it was illegal. She does not work for the company. He's writing it off as a tax deduction, the car, the gas, maintenance, everything. Burns me up when people get away with that stuff expecially when it's so obvious.

We ran a family S corporation for years, yeah i had a company vehicle to, but had to account for all my gas used with receipt's during company time. I only got to use the vehicle after hours if for company business. Your pretty much on the honor system. I guess when there's no one to checkup on this stuff, as long your fuel bill is about the same every month. Its amazing what can be gotten away with. Ive been on Canadian fishing trips with one guy who owned a large shoreline marina...he put nearly every expense on his business credit card claiming it a business trip.

That's shady but at least he's taking the risk if she gets in an accident that the company is liable as well as the individual..shame if that were to happen hmmmm

These guys either didn't know what they were doing or (I suspect) didn't care..perfect situation, the sponsors pay and few if any play so they only see the business it brings in the door. Though the arrogance of it all when they told us GTFO was quite surprising

Attention Veterans

I registered with the VA to receive the Covid Vaccine and received notice that they will contact me when to receive the vaccine.

they had extra doses last week and called me but i was out of town and had to decline.

The VA Hospital is less than two miles from my house in Newington so its a no brainer.

I used their web site created an account and registered.
