Greetings all. I picked up my new '21 Taco a few weeks ago and am mulling around undercoating options...currently thinking the CRC Marine Corrosion Inhibitor. What has been your experience with CT winters and underbody rust on 3rd gens?

I'm in an apartment complex with a small lot, so I'm unfortunately not really in a position to easily be putting the truck on jack stands or ramps for an extended period of time. I'm looking at buying a house or condo when the market cools off a bit (a year or two out probably), so I'm wondering if I can easily get a couple winters out of the Taco without much issues, or if I should try to work something out sooner than that.

I'm working from home right now so I can easily avoid the wet salty roads this winter, but that might not be the case post-pandemic.

I wouldn't chance it, an ounce of prevention...
I used wool wax on mine, 6 cans off Amazon and I barely got all of it, might invest in the sprayer since I will be doing this at least once a year

Fluid film tends to be the choice and several have posted how well their frames have looked after a number of winters. The key with FF is repeated application 1 or 2 times per year. I used Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protect. It’s more of a wax coating and, I’ve found, can last a couple of years. Anything is better than nothing. FWIW, there’s a member on here that applies FF at his house for a small fee when the weather is warmer out.

Welcome. i'll encourage you to do something. Besides the frame issues, rear pumpkin, fuel lines, brake lines, p/s lines, & every nut & bolt have already started to rust. It's just the nature of the beast. Folks that undercoat regularly have 10 year old trucks that look new. Folks that don't treat down under have rust popping up all over a year out. Way easier to stay ahead of it then try to play catch up with rust. Fluid Film, Wool wax, grease rub, NH Oil. There's places that do it if you look online. I'd not wait even though it seems expensive to have a pro do it. Next season do it through TW here, but I wouldn't wait.

Fluid film or wool wax are good but as others mentioned it’s once a year. Wool wax doesn’t smell bad like FF does,
I switched to WE for This reason. The trick is idk anyone who does it commercially.
What part of CT are you in?

    Eh Folks.

Had my new 2021 Tacoma undercoated at Reliable Auto in Colchester. $250

    https://reliableautocenterct.com/

It’s certainly less expensive to do it yourself … but what isn’t ? They offer fluid film & Wool Wax but I had to make a decision and went with Wool Wax. Pleased with the service and only time will tell how well the product protects. I anticipate having the shop do it at least 1 more time; maybe 2x… and then maybe touch it up each year myself. FWIW, it is a messy job and there was some overspray that ended up on the outside of the vehicle ( they have an outdoor lift ). I felt for a few extra bucks it was worth having them do it and have no complaints.

    Enjoy the snow this weekend.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just paid a pretty penny for the truck, so another $100-200 is a drop in the bucket if it keeps it like new. I see a couple recommendations in the thread previously for fluid film application at Hicks in Rocky Hill and Rt 83 in Ellington. Both are local so I'll give them a ring Monday to see if I can set something up soon.

Smell isn't an issue since it's parked outside. Did you switch from FF to WW? That's one of the concerns I have...going one route and being stuck with it.

Yeah, FF last year, WW this year. They are both based on lanolin, so i doubt there are any compatibility issues.

WW is a little thicker than FF. Allegedly it will last longer not as easy to wash off.
