Not necessarily..try it again and see what it does.

If it's really low on refrigerant, the compressor won't kick on for safety sake..that way the compressor isn't as likely to seize up and pitch the belt. Learned that with my 88 Celebrity, became a normal thing when the serpentine belt came to be

Got the AC recharge kit.

When I plugged it in, it was reading a whopping ZERO. DA FUQ!

So I followed the steps, got the PSI reading up to 35, which is between the recommended 25-50 range.

Guess we'll see what happens from here on out.

 

0 psi doesn’t sound good. You probably have a leak. See how the recharge goes but if it was empty, it would be best to vacuum it out and refill so that there isn’t moisture in the system (after any leaks are repaired of course).

 

Yup, thus the switch wouldn't kick on. The old style would have allowed it to turn on with 0 PSI and croaked the compressor soon.

My experience was with the R12, but I had a 88 Chevy Celebrity that I bought and it wasn't working. 0 PSI. My ex's mom's BF had a HVAC license to buy the R12 and charged it. Had it a couple of years after with no issues..

Chris, R12 had a bit more efficiency in cooling. I assume Nuno had working AC at the end of last month when it was 100F. That would indicate enough gas to have effective cooling. With 0 psi now, I’d be starting to look for a leak as it went from (assuming) good cooling to nothing in about a month. Any significant amount of moisture can damage the dryer in the system - Lord knows we’ve had plan of moisture in the air recently…

Hopefully, adding gas fixed the issue permanently.

 

Does the moisture end up freezing or is it from being a solid versus a gas that effects the system?

Aaaaaand we're back to work. Had a fun weekend though

 

I was camping was up at Lime rock for the races since Thursday (Lakeville). Talk about hot as shit, wet as hell, and electrifying as f**ck. Those were some bad storms. Lightning bolts hitting the hills all around and lots of crazy wind.
One of the gust of wind during the races took 4 pop-up canopies with it, blowing away in the wind. A couple of guys asked me why that didn't happen to my pop-up... -Me " I have 2 10" spikes in each leg, that happened to me memorial Day weekend when I was here for the races. I didn't want it to happen again lol"

Either way the main race Saturday got cut short because of the lightning proximity @5p. That storm sat right over us till 9pm when there was a little gap. I manage to get most stuff loaded into the truck and came home instead. I was not staying there sat night with that craziness. I went back Sunday morning and got my tent and the other pop up. Somehow they both survived lol. During the heavy rain Saturday evening one of the campsites combined three large tarps and covered it with Dawn to make a huge slip and slide.

 

Forecast kept us from heading over. Did watch on TV. That was some patches of scary weather for sure. Hopefully vintage racing Labor Day weekend will be better.

 

I Didn't watch it on tv. The forecast just made me pack differently. I watched it sitting there on the hillside or sitting in my truck during the lightning lol. I was there for the Trans am races memorial Day weekend. It was 45 and raining for those two days. It will be interesting to see what happens on historic's weekend like you said.
